Official: AC Milan announce Ismael Bennacer has tested positive for COVID-19

Ismael Bennacer was set to take part in today’s friendly clash between Milan and Nice at Allianz Riviera. However, he will miss out on the action after testing positive for COVID-19, as announced by the club.

The Algerian has played both of the friendly games from start this pre-season and was expected to do the same tonight. It’s a blow for the Rossoneri, especially since they don’t have a proper replacement for that role.

On their official website, Milan published a statement to update the fans of the situation. Fortunately, Bennacer is feeling well, training at home, and hasn’t been in contact with any of his teammates since the Modena clash.

“AC Milan announces that Ismaël Bennacer has not been called up for the friendly against OGC Nice following a positive test taken at home this week. The relevant local health authorities have been swiftly informed. The player is doing well and is training at home;2 the statement read.

This probably means that we will see Tommaso Pobega in the midfield tandem along with Sandro Tonali. It’s an interesting pairing, that’s for sure, and hopefully they will do a good job together against the French side.
