Official: AC Milan announce Mike Maignan has renewed his contract until 2031

Mike Maignan has officially renewed his contract with AC Milan, signing a deal that will keep him at the club until 2031.

It had been in the works for many months, but now it’s official: Maignan’s contract has been renewed. After what looked like an impossible situation in the summer, Massimiliano Allegri and Igli Tare managed to mend the situation in recent months, getting the Frenchman back onboard.

At the end of December, Gazzetta dello Sport broke the news about a turning point in the negotiations. The reports before that were all rather pessimistic, but a hefty offer and an improvement on the pitch were enough for Maignan to be convinced.

Maignan renewal: Now it’s official

On their website, Milan published a statement announcing the renewal. The initial deadline will be 2031. The goalkeeper is expected to earn €5m plus €2m in bonuses (even if the salary wasn’t mentioned by the club).

“AC Milan is pleased to announce the renewal of Mike Maignan’s contract until June 30, 2031.

“Arriving in the Rossoneri in the summer of 2021, Mike immediately established himself as one of the reference points of the group, distinguishing himself for leadership, reliability and spirit of sacrifice, until he became Captain and central figure of the team.

”A constant growth that has also led him to become a pillar of the French national team.

”With the Rossoneri jersey, Maignan has collected 188 appearances and was among the protagonists of the conquest of the Scudetto in the 2021/22 season and the 2024 Italian Super Cup, goals of a personal path built over time with dedication, responsibility and a deep sense of belonging to the Rossoneri colors.

“On an individual level, he was elected the best goalkeeper in Serie A in the 2021/22 season.

“Milan and Mike Maignan thus strengthen their bond, with the aim of continuing to write new pages of Rossoneri history together.“

For the Rossoneri, this is undoubtedly huge news, especially when you consider just how good Maignan has been this evening. The stats certainly back that up, as the Frenchman has prevented the most goals out of any goalkeeper in the top five leagues.

    1. Reijnders was sold because ManCity came for him after he extended his contract and he wanted to leave. If Maignan wanted to leave he wouldn’t have extended his contract when he could have literally signed for any club starting tomorrow as a free agent

      1. What you are saying makes zero sense.
Yes Tiji was delighted to renew and was sold

It won’t be any different with Mike if he leaves (he asked to leave last summer btw)

Just means we get paid and he keeps his reputation intact

In order to make up for budget deficit we sell, this summer will be no different except this year we have 80 to 100m deficit.
So Mike, Rafa, Bartesaghi, Pulisic you guys are in Russian roulette for who gets the chop

        1. What you say makes zero sense.
Tiji contract was agreed when Milan was still competing on all fronts and had a chance to qualify for the UCL. When that changed, Milan failed to qualify for the UCL and City came for him, he wasn’t so delighted to stay anymore.
More of what you say makes zero sense and lacking context.
Mike wanted to leave last summer because of what Milan did, which was backing out from an already agreed extension. His reputation would have been intact regardless, because we all know why he would have left for free which was not going to be his fault.
Leao, Bartesaghi, Pulisic might be sold for various reasons, not to make up for the deficit. Milan has other players to sell to make that up like Gimenez, Nkunku, Fofana, etc. but Mike won’t be one of them after this renewal.

  1. During the summer, many criticized Tare (and Allegri ?) for wanting to keep Maignan instead of selling him for another goalkeeper because it was almost certain we would then lose him for free.
I thought at that time that Allegri liking Mike and betting on his renewal + his quality is worth having him this season even if it means losing him for free.
When the rumors about the renewals started, many dismissed them as they were certain that Maignan wants to leave.
Now, wether we like what we did in other cases or not, but you gotta give credit to the management here.
Now let’s hope that “rich” Maignan is just as good as “broke” Maignan.

  2. Well done. For all the criticism management receives this was a piece of good work. For continuity and not having to pay another transfer fee plus wages. At least they’re smartening up. That being said, not fond of Mike’s injury record and there are other options out there that can meet the needs of a GK (in the new-mew GK era ofc)

  3. Mike proves all of us he has character and integrity. Respect for him. I’m absolutely sure if he wants, he can have a bigger offer from a PL team but he choose to stay with loyalty for the club.

  4. Have to give credit where credit is due. 6 months ago we thought there was no chance he was staying. Good on tare and allegri because they’re definitely the ones who changed his mind. Also good to know we can hold onto top players.

  5. I’m reading the comments and I can’t believe it. When everyone thought he would leave as a free agent, you were all insulting the management because they would allow it. Now that he has extended his contract, the management is suddenly bad again because they might sell him like Reijnders. Do you really not have even a shred of common sense? Go watch ski jumping or snooker, you don’t need to be very smart for that.

Anyway, hats off to the management and the captain. This is a sign that Milan is going in the right direction. It will become even more obvious now that Elliott is gone, no one is breathing down your neck anymore, no one is holding you on a leash.

  6. Let’s call this “contract year” form because Mike has been on another planet this season. Hopehe keeps this form up. This is definitely a 5mil/season form.

  7. I said this wouldn’t happen and there was no reason for him to do this rather than test the open market. All credit to the management for proving me wrong again. And for Mike, because I forget that some players do actually love their cities and clubs and don’t just chase the biggest number they can get in a contract.

Great to have this signed, the real captain of this team.

  8. Well after all this time, turned out Ballo Toure is the correct one. He said Mike would stay at Milan. What a guy, lol. Anyway, great signal from the management in locking down our key player.

  9. HERNANDEZ WARNS MILAN FANS REGARDING MAIGNAN RENEWAL: “IT DIDN’T END WELL ”

    Will Maignan renew?

“He has a similar situation to mine, and it didn’t end well.”

    Well well well.
I guess there is a different outcome for a grown man and a true professional vs a clown 🤡.
    Congrats to Mike.
