After going down injured in the 40th minute of AC Milan’s clash against Manchester City, fears were high about Alessandro Florenzi’s condition, and a statement from the club has confirmed he has undergone surgery.

Reports after the fixture stated that the injury was as bad as it looked, and the initial reaction was valid, with the right-back set to have an MRI on the night, and it was later confirmed that the 33-year-old had suffered ligament and meniscus damage, so would return to Italy early for surgery.

Today, in a statement on their website, Milan confirmed that the defender has successfully undergone surgery on his right knee, which aims to reconstruct the ACL and repair the meniscus in his right knee, and he will begin rehab after some recovery time.

It comes at a time when Milan were looking at his role within the squad, and with the Rossoneri intent on signing a new right-back in the mercato, his position in the squad would likely have been limited this season.

However, it now pushes the Diavolo to make a decision about the position, given there is a lack of cover at full-back. Therefore, a deal for Emerson Royal could be accelerated in the days to come.
