Official: AC Milan confirm Ismael Bennacer has recovered from Coronavirus

By Oliver Fisher -

Positive news has arrived as AC Milan have confirmed that midfielder Ismael Bennacer has recovered from Coronavirus and can return to training.

A statement on the club’s official website confirms that Bennacer has tested negative for Covid-19. The player has undergone medical screening and is authorised to resume training, but he will not be available for tonight’s friendly in Austria against Real Madrid as he has not been named in the squad.

It is good news for Stefano Pioli who has been light in midfield during the preseason preparations, with Bennacer’s absence compounded by the fact Franck Kessie has been at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, with Tommaso Pobega forced to adapt to a deeper role than what he is used to.

With Kessie’s return imminent too, it means a full strength XI could be available for selection in the final preseason friendly on August 14 against Panathinaikos at the Stadio Nereo Rocco.
