OFFICIAL: AC Milan confirm signing of Portugal forward Leao

AC Milan have completed the signing of forward Rafael Leao from Ligue 1 club Lille, the club have officially confirmed.

A statement on the official website reads: “AC Milan (the Club) announces that it has acquired from the LOSC Lille the right to the sports performance of the player Rafael Alexandre da Conceiҫão Leão . The Portuguese striker arrives at the Rossoneri Club outright, signing a five-year contract.

“Born in Almada, Portugal, on June 10th 1999, Rafael Leão grew up footballing in Sporting Lisbon, with which he made his First Team debut in 2017, winning the Taҫa da Liga, the Portuguese League Cup. 

“In the summer of 2018 he passes to Lille, in France, where he scores 8 goals in 26 games. He wore the jerseys of all the youth selections of Portugal, starting with the Under 16 team up to the Under 21 team, winning the title of European Champion in 2016 with the Under 17 team.”

Leao underwent his medical at La Madonnina clinic on Wednesday morning before travelling to the club’s Casa Milan office to confirm his move.

The Rossoneri are expected to pay around €30m-plus-bonuses for the 21-year-old, who has signed a five-year deal.

The Portugal U21 international becomes Milan’s third summer signing after Theo Hernandez and Rade Krunic – with Leo Duarte and Ismael Bennacer set to be confirmed shortly.
