Official: AC Milan vs. Monza starting XIs – Morata starts in rotated side

AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca has named the final starting XI of the summer preseason campaign, and it is one that has gone against the media reports.

There are just four days until the Serie A opener against Torino, and Milan’s final warm-up sees them take on their Lombardy neighbours in the Silvio Berlusconi trophy after returning from the United States where they beat Manchester City (3-2), Real Madrid (1-0) and Barcelona (4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 draw).

It was reported in the build-up that Fonseca would name a strong side, and Mike Maignan is between the sticks for the first time in preseason. Davide Calabria, Malick Thiaw, Matteo Gabbia and Filippo Terracciano are the back four from right to left.

However, the surprises start from the rearguard. Yunus Musah and Yacine Adli are in the midfield double pivot, which is somewhat of a shock given that the latter has struggled for minutes so far in preseason.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is playing further forward in the attacking midfielder position he played in last season and that is because Christian Pulisic will miss the game due to an ankle knock.

Alexis Saelemaekers and Rafael Leao are the right and left wingers respectively, with the other new addition Alvaro Morata leading the line.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Gabbia, Terracciano; Musah, Adli; Saelemaekers, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Morata.

Bench: Raveyre, Torriani, Bennacer, Jovic, Reijnders , Okafor, Zeroli, Theo, Jimenez, Chukwueze, Tomori, Liberali, Pavlovic, Pogeba, Cuenca.

Official Monza (3-4-2-1): Pizzignacco; Izzo, Marì, Carboni; Pereira, Bondo, Sensi, Kyriakopoulos; Maldini, Vignato; Marić.

Bench: Mazza, Sorrentino; Bettella, Birindelli, Caldirola; D’Alessandro, Gagliardini, Machin, Pessina, Valoti; Diaw, Marras, Mota Carvalho, Petagna.

      1. Ok seems like hesgoal is showing an italian movie instead in that link on hesgoal 😀

        Rojadirecta shows it though.

  1. Rlc and adli playing in each others natural position. Is it in rlc contract to play as am, for which we pay severance money if we dont play him there? At least let adli play am, n let judge him fairly

  2. wanted to watch but no stream so fuk em. whats the point of a match if you aint gonna broadcast it oustide of italy?

  3. What a disaster. Cant even broadcast a friendly. All the other friendlies are broadcasted. This is the worst most unorganaized management that this team has ever had.

  4. Great to have a coach that actually has an unpredictable lineup. When Pioli was here, all the predicted lineups were 100% accurate. lol.

  5. why the hell is Loftus-cheek playing in that position? his creativity is zero.
only player who is playing really good is saelemaekers, and its quite confusing actually

    1. and I really don’t understand what this guy is doing on the pitch : Teracciano . he is running around like a referee

      1. He is not a left back, he is right footed and very much so struggle playing inverted on the left. Feel bad for him because he won’t get the time he need to evolve on the right and by playing on the left he gonna be ridiculed

  6. Not so easy to find the game, but I’ll get the 2nd half now.

Nice to see a Maldini score in this one anyway, Silvio would approve!
He was passionate about the Milan family

  7. Already love this new left CB, Jimenez is just not it. Liberalli is a clear star. One thing I noticed the younger guys seem to not know how to shield or hold the ball. He does it effortlessly. Adli hell no, we should cut our losses. Midfield still not the best but who ever thinks we do not need Ben – must be high
