Official: AC Milan vs. Parma starting XIs – two changes from Girona win

AC Milan resume their Serie A campaign in Sunday’s early kick-off, welcoming Parma to San Siro hoping to avenge defeat in the reverse fixture.

With Juventus having lost last night and with Lazio playing Fiorentina later on (plus Bologna drawing with Empoli), the door has opened again for Milan to gain ground in the top four race.

However, they have previously failed to take advantage of this situation multiple times this season already, so Sergio Conceicao will be looking for the right signs after the Girona win in midweek.

The official starting XIs

In terms of injury news, Milan will be without Emerson Royal – who should miss 8-12 weeks – plus Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Malick Thiaw and Alessando Florenzi. Noah Okafor, Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze boost the forward options though.

There are two changes from the XI that beat Girona in the Champions League and one comes on the right side of the attack, where Pulisic gets the nod. He will have Alvaro Morata and Rafael Leao to his left.

The midfield trio will be Youssouf Fofana, Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders, with the American replacing Ismael Bennacer. The Frenchman must be careful though: he is one booking away from a one-game Serie A suspension, and the next league game is the derby.

Mike Maignan will have a back four of Davide Calabria, Matteo Gabbia, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez ahead of him, the rearguard that basically kept a clean sheet on Wednesday given that Emerson was forced off.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Gabbia, Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez; Fofana, Musah; Pulisic, Reijnders, Leao; Morata.

Bench: Sportiello, Bennacer, Jovic, Okafor, Zeroli, Jimenez, Chukwueze, Tomori, Bartesaghi, Terracciano, Camarda, Abraham.

Official Parma XI (4-2-3-1): Suzuki; Delprato, Vogliacco, Valenti, Valeri, Hernani, Sohm, Man, Cancellieri, Mihaila, Djuric.

Bench: Corvi, Moretta, Estevez, Almqvist, Keita, Ondrejka, Lovik, Hainaut, Camara, Leoni, Haj, Trabucchi, Plicco.

    1. The coach is try to appear brave that Parma game is as important as the derby. Silly arrogance. Wait until the team is left with no holding midfield against our greatest rival.

      1. I’d suggest it’s more arrogant to take a win against Parma for granted, especially on our current form. I’m surprised, I thought Fofana really needs a rest from his recent games, but I don’t mind focusing on winning this one. I’d rather have 3 points from the two games than none!

        1. I don’t know but it’s common sense that a key player is not risk for your biggest matches, even if there is some sense in your point.

  1. Glad to see Pavlovic keeping his place and Jovic making the bench. If we are struggling for goals, he is a safer bet than Tammy. Hopefully we win convincingly.

  2. So google is showing Pavlovic playing.
This article suggests Tomori is playing in the content but the official list is conflicting.

      1. Football Italia says Pavlovic too.

Yes I think they keep recycling the same article during the week as the predicted line up evolves. Then errors can slip in.

  3. Nobody wants to question this coach’s decision making yet right ? Fonseca would be destroyed if he’s the one that played Emerson last week and playing Fofana this week when even the blind can see he needs rest and can’t risk being suspended for the game against Inter.
    SMH

    1. Or maybe he thinks a fresh Bennacer is more important? Or maybe thinks Fofana is suited to this opposition. Or maybe plans to rest Fofana during the week?

To me it looks like Fofana needs a rest but let’s cheer them on and go for it, I’d rather win against Zagreb and Parma and lose to Inter than beat Inter and lose the other two.

  4. Here we go again, kicking the ball around untill we lose it and they score. No intent in anything we do, I will never understand this lazy mentality. Just run your socks of, if you cant run no more we can change.. We need real characters in this team.

  5. Next season sell Leao and Theo, or one of them.

These two players are playing like rich boys. Pioli have made these two players attitudes are so bad.

Theo and Leao must be treated like Sir Alex have done to Man Utd players, the hair dryer treatment

  6. Theo is walking around again and killing this team – goal was 100% his fault. I would start Jimenez and sell Theo, he has been horrible this entire season. Jimenez at least works hard. Just tired of Theo being lazy.

  7. We’re back to the good ole Pioli side to side and wait for a counter attack tactics. SMH. Parma has the second worst defense in the league and this is the first goal they have scored in 3 away games and yet they’re dominating us in possession and everything else. Clearly under Conceicao we concede a lot of goals and we don’t have a defined tactics. But hey, he put a cigar in his mouth, played an invisible guitar, danced for us, and screams “grinta” so he’s what this fans love. We’re back to looking pathetic and hasn’t looked convincing since this man came along. SMH

    1. Conceicao is not at fault at all, he just got here and was given mentally weak team. No coach can fix this team without reinforcements- blame the ones who deserve the blame here, Furlani, Moncada, Ibrahimovich and Cardinale.

      1. Haha yall will excuse him for everything but never gave Fonseca same luxury. Fonseca saw the problems in this team and tried to solve them but yall were not paying attention to what he was saying or being patient with him. He saw that Leao and Theo and Tomori were all dragging the team back. He saw a good partnership in Gabbia and Thiaw that was conceding less goals and Conceicao came in and made Theo and Leao gods again and they’re back to their lazy selves again. With Fonseca we walked the ball thru the middle and could string 2 passes together but with Conceicao, we don’t know how to hold or pass the ball. He’s like Pioli 2.0.

        1. Fonseca signed a multi-year contract and was there all preseason and up until December and got us into 8th place. We saw what he can do. He was trash. Conceicao has been with the team for maybe a month. You think they are the same?

          1. We were 8th on the table when he left and last time I checked, the season hadn’t ended when he was fired. He got us to the semi final of Italian cup, had us in a respectable position in champions league and was getting somewhere with fixing this team..

        2. Tell me you know nothing about futbol without telling me you know nothing about futbol. Fonseca had preseason, had players he requested and made a total mess out of this team. Conceicao has been here for like a month and won a trophy LOL. Give him same amount of time you gave Fonseca and give him the players he wants and then let’s see.

    1. At this point we just need to start picking up points, dont even care about derby, we clearly need all our “big guns” for Parma

      1. But even if we win today then it wont be worth much if we lose the following week and without Fofana in that match it probably will be an uphill battle. We are in a dire need of a backup for the Frenchman.

        1. Well I can say the exact same thing, If we cant beat the likes of Parma whats the point worring about inter? What we need is to focus on one game at a time and try to pick up whatever points we can. Fofana or not Inter is still way better than us unfortunatly

          1. The derby means something for us real fans. Parma is NOT just as important as a game as the derby. These fake fans are clueless.

          2. Fake fans, who are you? I’m more worried about cl qualification than inter sorry for being worried about whats good for the club rather than one time bragging rights with inter. When you grow up you will realise whats important.

          3. That’s a fairly reasonable point but we should nevertheless be able to beat them without Fofana to begin with. Kaka also has a point though in regard of the importance of the derby though not that im saying you are a fake fan or anything.

          4. Not saying its not important, just saying right now every game is impartant. But you are right, but I agree we can win either way, inter allow us to play on the counter, the one thing we are good at

          5. Sorry my bad as I didn’t make it clear enough but I actually meant against Parma but lets hope we can do it against Inter as well but derbies can go either way regardless as its different dynamics but I gotta say I’m a bit worried to play against them without the Frenchman, time will tell if it was unecessary to worry in that regard.

  8. Sergio starting to make mistakes. First was playing Emerson when he was about to leave and now risking Fofana as he will miss derby.

Hope he sits Leao on the bench, puts Puli on the left and Jimenez on the right. I have enough of his nonchalant a$$ dragging up and down the field. Same goes for Theo but there’s no adequate alternative on the bench.

    1. Absolutely frustrating that we will miss Fofana against Inter but I guess we will only have to hope for a miracle and that they acquire a qualified backup in the meantime which seems highly unlikely to happen.

  9. Native italian speakers please tell me what the milan fans is singing and has done so from time time since December, started singing it again right after Parmas 2nd goal ?

      1. Looks like he got in right in the end….dude Fonseca is gone, get over it. He’s not the manager anymore and he’s not your boyfriend

  10. This result because we don’t have prolific and wc striker..where are management balls when we need him at parma colloseum…are they still still stick to their money balls after this result.?

    1. Management have spent a fortune. They have been in charge for 18 month. What are you complaining for?
There is no moneyball, moneyball is based on alalytics. Moncada is a traditional scout.

  11. Did Calabria just got into it with Conceicao? Lol! We need that clown out of this team and please take the captain band away from him.

  12. Calabria could have waited till the locker room to state his displeasure not when your team comes from behind to win. You ought to be celebrating.
