Official: AC Milan vs. Roma starting XIs – three changes from Atalanta

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has named his starting line-up for the game against Roma at San Siro, with changes compared to the Atalanta game in midweek.

The good news is that Noah Okafor is back and on the bench, but Pierre Kalulu, Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori will be out for some time yet while Ismael Bennacer and Samuel Chukwueze are at the AFCON.

Pioli has chosen a back four of Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Matteo Gabbia and Theo Hernandez in front of the goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Theo therefore returns to playing on the left side, with Gabbia making his first league start since returning.

It appears to be 4-2-3-1 system which features Yacine Adli and Tijjani Reijnders as the deeper-lying midfielders, and therefore with Ruben Loftus-Cheek playing in a more advanced position.

In attack it will be Christian Pulisic on the right wing again, with Rafael Leao on the opposite flank and Olivier Giroud the centre-forward.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Gabbia, Theo; Adli, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

Bench: Mirante, Nava, Simic, Bartesaghi, Jimenez, Terracciano, Musah, Zeroli, Romero, Chaka Traoré, Okafor, Jovic.

Official Roma XI (3-5-2): Svilar; Kristensen, Mancini, Llorente; Celik, Cristante, Paredes, Bove, Zalewski; El Shaarawy, Lukaku.

Bench: Rui Patricio, Boer, Karsdorp, Huijsen, Pellegrini, Belotti, Zalewski, Pisilli, Joao Costa.

  1. If Milan can’t beat this awful Roma squad playing without Dybala and Pellegrini, Pioli should be fired during the game on the pitch.

    1. LOL. Don’t forget they’re without Mourinho, Ndicka and Aouar too. I predict a 1-1 result with Roma equalizing after the 80th minute. Pioli will be OK because all of the other sides immediately below us failed to win.

      1. Win 3-1

Really funny that you think only Roma who lost their players when we also has players absent from Bennacer, Tomori, Thiaw, Kalulu, Chuk, and Florenzi.

  2. Wrong Selection with bad Formation
Calabria is useless,Kjear is useless, Giroud is useless. Just like Loftus Cheek
Simic,Terracciano,Musah and Jovatic are to be lined up into the 11

    1. I saw ‘Moumin Tourre Abdullahi’ user in sempreinter comments as well lol. What the heck are you doing here? Don’t you have some self respect?

  3. All I would hope for at this point is a decent effort from the players and some quality football.
We’re not winning anything this season so lets at least use the rest of the fixtures to work on our game and give fans some entertainment

  4. This is our best 11. And thankfully Theo has gone back to his normal position. I’ll watch todays game to see how they play. I’ve not watched Milan game for almost two months after being discouraged by their sluggish build up that is hurtful to watch. Hope for some improvement.

Too bad Benacer has gone for nations cup. Wish him all the best.

    Forza Milan.

    1. Kakaesque goal. Still, he has defensive liabilities. I think RLC should come off, Adli pushed up as the AMC and Musah brought in next to Reijnders. Adli should play as an attacking midfielder.

      1. This!
Although it’s clear that Pioli intends to use adli solely as a DM, so as long as he stays Adli needs to rack up minutes to gain match experience in that role.

      1. No. It’s not Pioli job to fix players errors when they already in the field. You’re talking nonsense here as if players doesn’t have their own responsibility.

      1. Yeah wtf
This exact musah for pulisic sub lost us at least 4 pts this season, we’re leading 2-1 with momentum against us and here we are again.
This is why he has to go

  5. Rafael Pippao, I think it would be better for you and for Milan if you go to another club in the summer and in your place we bring a more serious player with the desire to perform regularly. Another more motivated player.

    1. Watch the game again, I can point out 10 occasions where he made some really great runs and nobody lifted their eyes to pass to him. That’s very frustrating for a player. Tell RLC, Tijani, and Calabria to look up next time and square the pass instead of holding unto the ball for too damn long.

  6. Good game, good win. Still I’d rather see a proper holding midfielder than RLC next to Adli, Reijnders or Bennacer. I’m so glad we have Gabbia back, this kid has always been solid. One of the most underrated CB’s out there.
