Official: AC Milan vs. Roma starting XIs – two changes from Atalanta draw

Massimiliano Allegri has named AC Milan’s team to face Roma, and there are a couple of changes from the draw against Atalanta.

After back-to-back draws in the league against Pisa and La Dea, Milan are on the hunt for what would be their sixth win in their first 10 Serie A fixtures. However, they face a Roma side that are three points higher at the moment, and have conceded just four goals in nine games.

Allegri will be without four players due to injury this evening: forward duo Santiago Gimenez and Christian Pulisic, influential midfielder Adrien Rabiot and the young winger Cheveyo Balentien.

As was reported in the build-up to the game, Allegri has chosen to name Koni De Winter, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic as the three centre-backs in the rearguard ahead of the captain Mike Maignan in goal.

Alexis Saelemaekers will be the right wing-back facing the club he was on loan at last season, with Davide Bartesaghi on the opposite side. They will flank a midfield trio of Youssouf Fofana, Luka Modric and Samuele Ricci.

The front two will be Rafael Leao and Christopher Nkunku, but this was almost a given because of Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez’s injury problems.

Official Milan XI (3-5-2): Maignan; De Winter, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Saelemaekers, Fofana, Modric, Ricci, Bartesaghi; Leao, Nkunku.

Bench: Pittarella, Terracciano, Tomori, Odogu, Athekame, Estupinan, Jashari, Loftus-Cheek, Castiello.

Official Roma (3-4-1-2): Svilar; Mancini, Ndicka, Hermoso; Wesley, El Ayanoui, Kone, Celik; Soule, Cristante; Dybala.

Bench: Vasquez, Gollini, Rensch, Pellegrini, Dovbyk, Tsimikas, Ziolkowski, Bailey, Baldanzi, Pisilli, Ghilardi, El Shaarawy.

  1. Very difficult match and pitch conditions will be poor as well, I think. We’re having trouble scoring and are not keeping clean sheets. Roma doesn’t score much, but has the best defense. This smells of a 1-1 draw, and maybe even 0-0, but Roma has a good chance to win given all of our injuries.

    1. Agree with this – I’m not optimistic after being screwed over by injuries and everyone misfiring/ being overplayed – hope I’m wrong..

  2. Good to see Tomori on the bench, his foolishness lead to Lukhman goal, could have cost us another goal.May be he needs rest to refresh his brain

  3. Think positive lads.. big game, at least at home and we’ll have a big game tonight… Better chance in mailand than in rome… Tick tack, tick tack only a half an hour…😊♥️🖤🫶🏽

  4. RLC on at the half for Leao or Nkunku if we are chasing.

Hope to see 15 min from Jashari that shows Fofana is the backup eventually.

I hope the fatigue I think I was seeing in Modric was something else

  5. Game after game I like Ricci less…
I hope Rabiot will come back as soon as possible and Jashari will recover full physical form sooner .
With Rabiot in the midfield and Pulisic in attack I watch our ganes more relaxed

  6. Long ball to Leao, and Leao doesn’t play with his back to goal very well. That’s the strategy. Cristante is stuck to Modric.

  7. One of the worst performances by a Milan team I can remember until the goal and then a complete change.

The manager needs to sort this out and be proactive

    1. It reminds me too much of last year. At least we didn’t wait to go down a goal before starting to play (but we sure tried to give them a goal)

  8. 1st half
*Maignan an old lady taking 40 touches before ballooning the ball to Antarctica.
*bartesaghi is plucking corn in an apple farm
    * Ricci is still laying foundation on first floor, yet to know his positioning on the field.
    *de winter, winter is nearby
*Modric, no grudge over the legend
    * nkuku is playing in the mud, slipping every time
*FOFANA HAS THE BRAIN OF A CHICKEN, ALWAYS LOOKING FOR DIFFICULT PASSES WHEN SIMPLE ONES ARE THERE, HIS LEGS ARE OPPOSED TO THE GOAL.
Leao, well despite everything awfully lazy pressing, he did what he does best. One moment wonder
I hope 2nd half turns our way and we win.
OH RABIOT AND PULISIC, PLS RECOVER IN TIME

    1. In fairness Rabiot and Pulisic play in positions we are most covered, Mezzala and 2nd striker.

It’s more about how we are trying to play as a team

  9. NOfana needs to be benched. Holy moly what a miss

Isak, hope you’re watching… Unless he scores a hatrick somehow, I can’t see him more than 4 out of 10 for the ratings 🤭😅

  10. Come on Leao gotta put away at least one of those or else it’s gonna be another week of those “articles”
Did you swap boots with NOfana?

  11. In three games in a row, the team has been calamitous. It’s not something to belittle. This is scary. I was literally laughing (been sarcastic) throughout the entire game, wondering how two players in Pulisic and rabiot absence can impact so heavily on a team. Pheeeew
