AC Milan have officially announced that Sergio Conceicao has been named as the new head coach, replacing Paulo Fonseca.
It has been a rollercoaster 24 hours for Milan, with news breaking just before last night’s game against Roma stating that Fonseca was set to be sacked as the manager regardless of the result.
Those same reports suggested that his compatriot Conceicao would take over from him, a name who was linked during the summer window when the search for Stefano Pioli’s successor was on.
Fonseca was indeed relieved of his duties and now it has been confirmed that the former Porto head coach Conceicao will take charge immediately, signing an 18-month deal with the Rossoneri.
The statement on the official website reads as follows: ‘AC Milan announces that Sérgio Paulo Marceneiro da Conceição has been appointed as the Head Coach of the men’s First Team until 30 June 2026.
‘The Club extends a warm welcome to Sérgio and his staff, wishing a journey full of success and fulfilment.’
The results he got with Porto are encouraging: in seven years there he won three league titles, twice reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and lost in the last 16 three more times.
He won 10 trophies there, and even won the league title with a record-breaking 91 points, meaning he has a CV that meant some Milan fans wanted him in the summer.
Finally some good news
Hallelujah, the 2024 nightmare is over…
like everyone else here, i dont know him in person so i dont know if he’s good or bad, but he appears to have a personality. i have a good feeling and he was my favorite also in the summer. his facial expressions like from an italo western. i imagine he dont have to discuss any mentality issues in detail via the media – just one look and Leao/Theo/whoever will run.
Better coach but with Moncada still around whats the point? We will still be getting nobodies who won’t work as usual. And when that happens they will scapegoat the coach again. Either invest in good players or sell the club.
I didn’t trust management to know what they’re doing before and I still dont trust them now too. Have no clue how good/competitive the Portuguese league is or how Moncada/Furlani algorithm takes into account such differences. But Best of luck to Sergio. Hopefully he does well, steer us back to sensibility in the standings.
I can fill you in a PT league, top quality able to produce talent, something Serie A habe forgotten and can learn from. It also doesnt matter where are you from what colour is your skin and who hou believe on, just matters how good you are when you cross the white line.
Very patient with young talend and cajunas to trust them by okaying them.
The rest i dont need schooling you, hooe you can out two and two together.
Oh and wait, it is the clueles Milan management that had the courage to make this decission albait a bit late but nevertheless top brave decission.
Lets see if those wearing our sacred jersey are worth it. You no longer can blame the manager or the owners or the money .. none of that.
I don’t follow the Portuguese league, but Porto, Benfica, and Sporting have been producing and identifying top talent for a long time. We should play to our players’ strengths. Here’s hoping for a successful January mercato.
Well for the simplest example we witnessed how his Porto when we faced ‘em in UCL. Resulting in 1 defeat and 1 draw. Honestly his Porto played really well. With fast and agressive kind of football. And I think that’s a suitable style for us rather than the hard-headed possession style Fonseca tried to achieve.
I don’t know anything about Conceicao works. But if he don’t give any improvement in 10 match then this season is pretty much over.
So good luck for Conceicao. I hope he do well.
Once again fans knew better than menagement. Once again fans were right ,fonseca wasnt the man for the job. When will cardinale’s chihuahua ibrahimovic admit that he was wrong and fans were right?
Welcome and good luck.
The water is under the bridge for fonseca.
I hope sergio can help Milan back on track and qualify for ucl next season at the very least.
Good luck to Sergio. Hope he can salvaged whatever is left of this season. Difficult to expect miracles mid-season but happy to see the back of Fonseca. Hope he restores some faith in Leao/Theo…we need them back to their best.
He was a great player in the 1990’s and in the early 2000’s, was part of a generation of great Portuguese players, including Rui Costa, Figo, Nuno Gnomes and many more, he has experience of the Golden age of Serie’a, and was Coached by the best Coaches of that time in Lazio, Inter and Parma, he also was team mates to really great players in club level.
He has shown in his managerial career that he good, and has won multiple trophies, just the way he was a winner as a player, the most important thing is knowing how to motivate and set up the team, what ever people say, we still have a very good core of players….
Usually when we’re happy about a coach going we tend to be disappointed with the replacement. This is feeling a bit different😊Beautiful day.
best of luck mister.. hope you can fight your way to bring milan great again, including to fight that sh*tty board members
I hope he does a great job for us and at least brings us cl qualification which probably is the best we can hope for this season.
Besides of that I hope sacking Fonseca isn’t giving the management an alibi to put a foot on the break in the winter mercato as they will use it as an excuse to let Conceicao judge the squad and its needs until the summer.
At least he seems to be someone with an actual spine and knows what he wants unlike Fonzy who was still experimenting.
Some say he’s Portuguese Conte who bets on physical preparation, hardwork and discipline. And that’s exactly what we lack.
Conceicao is an effin’ warrior. He’ll battle with anyone and everyone. He has a reputation. He’ll fight for this team and expect the team to fight for him. Pretty sure he has no problem facing off Ibra either.
Curious how this plays out.
Incompetent management, growing injury list, two goofball right backs, strikers who can’t score, attitude problems, players out of form, 8th in the league….. welcome Sergio! 🥳
💯 facts 🤣🤣🤣
Almost a mission impossible sequel. Maybe they should have called Tom Cruise instead.
Haha. Good one.
Gerry loves his celebrities after all….why not lol 😆
A baptism of fire. Hopefully he has a firetruck.
Fortunately, he was free, and, didn’t reject us. Credit to management; they got the best of Portugal. They corrected their earlier mistake, without wasting much time. Hopefully, they can dole out the money the club needs to move forward with a coach like this.
Eh, they wasted about month IMHO. This change should have been made after the 2-1 loss to Atalanta.
I don’t understand what we are celebrating?
Do you guys really think that replacing the coach will ‘fix’ everything?
The problems are there. Nothing has changed
Something has changed. We replaced a loser, mediocre, throws-the-players-under-the-bus coach with a proven winner, high quality coach.
Remember when we lost to Conceição’s Porto? They were fast and aggressive.
People say he doesn’t have Serie A experience as a coach but he did have extensive serie A experience as a player, including winning the Scudetto. He played for Inter, Parma, and Lazio. Probably speaks good Italian too.
Look, I don’t expect miracles and I think this season is lost regardless of hiring a new coach, but I do hope that he will get us to the next UCL; I didn’t think that Fonseca would do that. There are still 20 games to go and if we convert our game-in-hand, we are 5 points from 4th place. It’s feasible.
Good luck Conceição and Forza Milan!
Nicely put
My sentiments exactly!
Menagment should also be subject to chanege, who is our sporting director, Octavio??? Someone must also take blame abot Rojal, Kalulu, Adli… I would always keep Salemakers over Cukwtze.
That’s on Moncada, he needs to be fired too.
Wish him all the best, brimg Milan where it belongs, on top. Still don’t trust the squad, poorly built. Wonder what will happen if he fails to deliver. Maybe management will get the axe as well. Eitherway it will be interesting. Wish our new coach all the best.
Wonder when will the “special advisor” leave the job
What I’ve been waiting to hear for a long time.
