Official: AC Milan vs. Udinese starting XIs – five changes from Fiorentina defeat

AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca has named his starting line-up for the game against Udinese this evening, and he has opted to make several changes from the team that lost to Fiorentina before the break.

In terms of absences for Milan, Davide Calabria is the only player who is not yet out of the treatment room in terms of the short-term absences. Ismael Bennacer, Alessandro Florenzi and Marco Sportiello remain out as they continue recovery from surgery.

Mike Maignan is in goal with Emerson Royal at right-back, while as of last night it seemed it would be Matteo Gabbia alongside Strahinja Pavlovic at centre-back. However, the former has a muscle issue and it will be Malick Thiaw who pairs up with the Serbian.

Filippo Terracciano will take the spot of the suspended Theo Hernandez at left-back after winning the duel with Alex Jimenez, and there are no changes in the double pivot which means Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders keep their spot.

Samuel Chukwueze returned early from Nigeria duty with an injury scare earlier in the week but he will is fine and starts on the right, with Christian Pulisic as the attacking midfielder and Noah Okafor on the left in place of Rafael Leao.

The Portuguese winger is believed to be having his workload managed given that the games will now come thick and fast. Finally, Alvaro Morata taking Tammy Abraham’s place and thus leading the line.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson, Thiaw, Pavlovic, Terracciano; Fofana, Reijnders; Chukwueze, Pulisic, Okafor; Morata.

Bench: Sportiello, Torriani, Loftus-Cheek, Leao, Jimenez, Tomori, Liberali, Bartesaghi, Musah, Abraham.

Official Udinese XI (3-5-2): Okoye; Kabasele, Bijol, Toure; Ehizibue, Zemura, Lovric, Karlstrom, Ekkelenkamp, Zemura; Iker Bravo, Lucca.

    1. Gabbia is not better than either Thiaw or Pavlovic, buddy. What, you think just because he scored the derby winner and is Italian, he’s somehow better?

      1. Where in my comments did I say because of the derby winner he’s better than Thiaw and Pav??? LMAO 😂😂😂 u guys r weird
But still, nonetheless he’s better than both, better positioning, better tactically, better slide and standing tackle, better or as good aerially. The only thing is probably pace and he makes up for in positioning

  1. Yeah, Gabbia is out due to injury.

I don’t think this back 4 have not played together this season. I fear calamity. But keeping fingers crossed. Thiaw can give one a heart attack. But let’s be hopeful.

  2. As much as Thiaw sometimes has nearly given me a heart attack I’m quite intrigued to see how the Thiaw/Pavlovic partnership will turn out. If both can get up in gears and Thiaw finds his form of the first season with us it could become a strong defender pairing. It should also be taken into the equation that Udinese has the tallest field player in Serie A so hopefully this will prevent Lucca capitalizing on his tall frame.
Hopefully we will also see Liberali in action later on in the match.

      1. I was fairly calm up until the red card which I have a difficult time seeing even being a freekick.
Hopefully we will still be able to win the match though.

  3. I’d throw Musah into the starting lineup and prefer Jimenez to Terra but I’m happy enough with this and confident of a good performance at least. So glad to see Okafor up there.

  4. I’d like to say, for people who always talk how fonseca lost the locker room has no respect of the players and other bs.
Does this team look like it? Because I see players trying hard. Even in the games we lost this season.

      1. Didnt seem like it was clear but maybe I’m too fast in my reaction but indeed seems like he overreacted.

Thank god that Udinese goal was disallowed.

    1. Look at the legs. He clipped him from behind. He tried to pull his run but was too late. Serie A players know how to make the most of situations. A bit of naivety there from Deers

      1. Didn’t really look like it to me as the player overplayed the slim contact but maybe when I see a replay later I might change my view. Its atleast always a possibility.

  5. Here we go – down to 10 men because of the ref… But the twat Gino on MLM podcast says “You should still win despite ridiculous ref decisions going against you”. Okay dude – this decision won’t affect the game at all…..

  6. On a completely different matter I keep wondering why its so popular to have those flashing lights at half time when its actually not very good for people with epilepsy as they risk seizures. Not very including.

  7. Pulisic ought to be wearing the no. 10 on this squad. He’s the only one that approaches the kind of player that represents that number.

  8. The added time was insane, red was horrible today. Not the prettiest game but hard fought win considering we played with 10 players most of the game. Udinese didn’t have one scoring chance entire game. Well done Milan.

  9. For me it looked like a clear red being the last man but I didn’t see the replay. Will have to watch it again. We looked like we were going to dominate the game before the red. Bit lucky in the end but a decent effort playing with ten men. Not sure what people expect from a ten man Milan.
