Official: AC Milan vs. Verona starting XIs – three changes from Feyenoord loss

AC Milan head coach Sergio Conceicao has named his starting line-up for the game against Hellas Verona, with some notable changes from the Feyenoord defeat.

In what is another must-win game for Milan in the league, there are some selection issues for Conceicao. Fikayo Tomori will serve a one-game ban after his red card in Empoli, while Emerson Royal, Alessandro Florenzi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Luka Jovic are injured.

The coach cannot have been happy with what he saw in Rotterdam on Wednesday night. There is one change to the defensive department with Kyle Walker, Malick Thiaw, Matteo Gabbia and Theo Hernandez ahead of Mike Maignan.

Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani are the central midfield duo, with Yunus Musah playing on the right side of the attack, Riccardo Sottil on the left and then Joao Felix behind Santiago Gimenez.

As a reminder of the news from earlier today, Christian Pulisic is not feeling 100% and therefore is being rested, but will be able to come on during the game.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Walker, Thiaw, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez; Musah, Fofana, Reijnders, Sottil; Gimenez, Joao Felix.

Bench: Sportiello, Torriani; Bartesaghi, Jiménez, Pavlović, Terracciano; Bondo, Pulisic; Abraham, Camarda, Chukwueze, Leão.

Official Verona XI (3-4-2-1): Montipò; Valentini, Coppola, Dawidowicz; Tchatchoua, Duda, Niasse, Bradarić; Suslov, Kastanos; Sarr.

  1. If they win the 2 games in hand they will only be 2 point from UCL. Better win today. I guess they promised Félix that he would start always. Puli at half to save Conceciao and Milan again.

  2. Good lineup.
Win and you are 5 points from 4th with a game in hand.
Lazio plays beautiful football, totally dominated Napoli.
When it comes to Napoli, if Conte doesn’t win the scudetto this season it’s a major failure since they are the only serie A team fighting for the top spots that plays in 1 only competition with 1 game a week.
Lazio has beaten them twice this season and dominated them in the 3rd.

  3. No real options in the midfield. Let’s win guys. How can musah develop if every coach doesn’t define a specific position for him? He is literally everywhere.

  4. I think for the first time, we’ll see truly creative work on the left wing rather than just beat RB, byline work. Felix can really shoot.

    1. Hope so. He hasn’t looked great so far. I would have brought Sottil on as a sub for his first appearance but will see how he dies. Don’t know much about him.

  5. Reinjders Fofana yet again. And Sottil -Felix who’ve never played with each other. Let me just grab a big bag of popcorn for this one 🤭

      1. Like I said.. lol it’s so easy to predict 🤣
Puli and Leao to exert themselves two games in a row now in the league in order to win the game. And then we wonder they we do badly in the UCL
        But we have depth right?

  6. Playing Musah on the right side and benching Chuk always. Shows Conceiçao only wants to create from the left side and just like Pioli, he’s clueless. I said this before, under Fonseca was the first time in a while I saw a coach trying to create from both the midfield and both wings hereby starving Leao and eliminating our dependence on his side of the field. This coach is back to the crap again. Until we go back to a coach that knows how to create from all sides of the forward line, we won’t get anywhere. He can scream all he wants but that won’t save us if he doesn’t have a tactics.

  7. Musah is so useless – running around like chicken with no head collecting yellow cards. I would take him off at half time before he gets himself sent off.

        1. Haha 😂
But to be fair, I think Musah is being misused. He’s not a right winger but he can be useful in a midfield three. He can cause havoc when he’s ready but those games are too few and far between. Half of it is football IQ and the other half tactics

          1. He certainly aint no right wing and I always gets extra irritated seeing him fielded there. I think there might be a good dm in there somewhere but he hasnt really impressed me since joining us. I think he is often fielded as rm to balance the team but do we really need to do that as much against a team of Veronas current stature.

  8. What a sh1t team, sh1t performance.
Playing Verona who have by far the worst defensive record in the league with 53 conceded, the next worst is 44!

Conceicao deserves criticism for this mess, why is Musah playing RW FFS?
Chucky, Pulisic and Jimenez on the bench.
I know Pulisic needs a rest but surely the others should play.
    Embarrassing again

    1. Whenever you play Musah as a RW he has never been productive and you keep playing him, where’s the sense in that?

Conceicao is at fault for this first half.

  9. Its now a trend for Milan to always play 1st half with no soul, no passion, just dull performance, then 2nd half we start expecting miracles. It’s sad and vexing to watch.

  10. I seriously hate that in modern day football when a player is down due to getting stricken towards the head matches are stopped. When I was a teen I personally didn’t give a damn if i had to jump down in feet height to head the ball with the potential of getting kicked in the head if i could score a goal. Now players just use ever single little occasion to complain or fake injuries to lessen the pressure of the opposition.

  11. Jimenez, Leao, and Giminez. Alex Jimenez is such a brilliant youngster, the most ready of our youngsters by some margin. Of all the guys in the U/23 squad including Origi he is the best by far. But we can’t consider him a Futuro player anymore

    1. True so many misplaced passes. Sloppy. So sloppy, Felix and Reijnders combine very well. Real creativity. But Leao has been very sloppy, he loses and turns over the ball too much, 18 times against Feyenoord and here again tonight he has made stupid passes and mistakes.

      1. Well I can understand critique in regard of Leao when he doesnt put in too much work effort into things and then walks around smiling afterwards which definitely irritates me a lot as he is our greatest athlete so the bar should be higher but he did play a huge role in that goal so I’ll give him that. If anything our game upped a notch when he entered the field, Felix has talent but his complaining and playing victim rather irritates me a lot and had i met him when i was actively playing football i might actually have smacked him one to his face as he plays a victim and actually also makes some grievious faults himself. Reijnders I’ve always liked.

        1. Felix is irritating, a bit of a fluffer.
Leao seems to have really stepped up his play acting too, must be a Portuguese thing, pretty disgusting.
If I was playing them I’d give them a proper kick for them to cry about.

It amazes me Baresi sits watching that and never complains.

          1. Sorry for the late reply. Yeah players really should be able to give their utmost and especially when being professionals, there simply is no alibies in my book for not doing so.

As much as I love Baresi he is basically just a figurehead for the club nowadays as I see it as I believe his role within the club is a club ambassador.

  12. Musah is the new Krunic. Conceiçao loves him like Pioli loved Krunic.. Players that are not technically good but atleast the run around like headless chickens so who needs creativity in midfield. lol..
