Milan-Juventus starting XI

Official: AC Milan vs. Juventus starting XIs – Musah starts on the right flank

AC Milan will take on Juventus in about an hour and Paulo Fonseca has named his starting XI for the big game. While Matteo Gabbia is back, which is a big boost, Christian Pulisic is on the bench.

Gabbia trained with the team in the last few days and given that he’s been the best defender this season, having him back is a pretty big boost for Milan. On the other hand, Pulisic isn’t 100% and is starting the game on the bench.

As a result, Milan will have Yunus Musah – which is a surprise – and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the attacking trio, most likely similar to what we saw against Real Madrid. The rest of the XI is not really any surprise, even if some might think Fikayo Tomori should start over Malick Thiaw.

Juventus, meanwhile, have decided to go with a rather unorthodox 4-2-4 formation for the game. Especially when you consider that Teun Koopmeiners and Weston McKennie are the starting ‘strikers’, but Thiago Motta likely have some sort of plan in mind for the matter.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson, Thiaw, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez; Fofana, Reijnders; Musah, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Morata.

Bench: Sportiello, Raveyre; Calabria, Pavlović, Terracciano, Tomori; Pulisic; Abraham, Camarda, Chukwueze, Okafor.

Official Juventus XI 4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Savona, Kalulu, Gatti, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Thuram; Conceicao, McKennie, Yildiz; Koopmeiners.

Bench: Perin, Pinsoglio; Danilo, Rouhi; Fagioli; Mbangula, Weah.

    1. Yep. He did what I thought he could not do: play Musah at RW over Chukwueze. Bad lineup and bad for Chuk’s morale. Despite so many out for Juventus, I fear a poor result.

  1. Hopefully we will win and looking at Juventus’ bench I’ll suggest us to hurt a few of their players early on in the match as they really doesn’t have many options available considering two of their bench players are gk’s 😀

Kidding aside I expect us to win this match and hopefully with a couple of goals.

    AC Milan 3-1 Juventus.

    1. Horrible performance but we were nevertheless allowed to dream beforehand the match. I’d almost preferred that we had lost it but played a fantastic match.

  2. Musah has great range and great defensive ability, better than his offensive ability.
I suspect he will play more like a wingback, and he will drop back in defense to help out Emerson, so that this will be more like a 4-3-3 or a 5-3-2.
This is the role he has been playing under Pochettino for the USMNT also, and he’s getting better at it.
I think Fonseca realized that having both Leao and Chuk on the wings would mean a really poor midfield defense

    1. So why not just play Reijnders, Fofana and Musah in a 4-3-3 and keep Chuk on the field? RLC has been trash this season. With this lineup all they need to do is double team Leao and they will shut us down.

  3. This is a very solid line up, I just hope RLC and Fofana are the double midfield pivot, with Rendijers as the attacking midfielder, this game will be epic.

  4. Musah is the more defensive option. Not sure what Chuk is showing in training, but OK. It’s the RLC at the 10 that makes me uncomfortable.

Juve playin with a false 9 with Koop. Will probably drop deeper, like Morata and try to stretch our D.

  5. Given Juventus’ defensiveness and lack of attack, and our one-sidedness due to not having Puli and employing a box to box midfielder as RW and a wannabe footballer at AM, I predict this will be a 0-0. Or a 1-0 game, but not sure for who.

    1. Typically cagey game against Juventus. There is a lot at stake. We’re barely hanging on to the title challenge. But I hear you. I’m also frustrated. Like I said above, this will be a 1-0 game for someone, or 0-0.

      1. I understand this is tactical match and they cannot go all in. I just want to see improvements but they’re not even showing the spirit.

  6. Everyone’s saying it – RLC is a dud at #10 and it’s not clear why Fonseca keeps playing him there. Personally I’d rather sign Hagi for 500 euro and stick him in there.

      1. Careful now, its only recently dejan10 was saying how amazing RLC is and how great his stats are.

Then again he’s also the one in summer who kept saying how Kalulu is constantly injured and should be sold.

        These Redbirds have no consistency

  7. Clearly, Fonseca did not watch video from the Pioli years. Playing Leao up the middle does.not.work. One of RLC or Musah needs to come off for Chuk or Pulisic so we can revert to a 4-3-3 with wide wingers.

  8. I usually doesn’t complain too much about our players or coaches, today though there was not much hunger or even attempt to win so this is what I have to say and take in mind I’m rather angry currently. F the players F the coach and F this management and ownership. BS perfomance. Time to remove some weeds from this club from top to bottom.
