Official: AC Milan vs. Sassuolo starting XIs – Gabbia starts and Rebic in over Leao

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has named an interesting starting line-up for today’s game against Sassuolo at San Siro.

Ciprian Tatarusanu has been named in goal with a back four of Davide Calabria, Pierre Kalulu, Matteo Gabbia – in for the injured Fikayo Tomori – and Theo Hernandez ahead, marking two changes from the defeat to Lazio.

Ismael Bennacer is suspended after picking up too many yellow cards so his place in the midfield has been taken by Rade Krunic, with Sandro Tonali alongside the Bosnian and Charles De Ketelaere ahead of them in the No.10 role for his first start in four months.

Alexis Saelemaekers has been selecting in the right wing role and the main surprise is that Ante Rebic has been picked over Rafael Leao, with Olivier Giroud up front.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Tatarusanu; Calabria, Kalulu, Gabbia, Theo Hernandez; Krunic, Tonali; Saelemaekers, De Ketelaere, Rebic; Giroud.

Bench: Vasquez, Mirante, Ballo-Touré, Adli, Brahim, Leao, Origi, Kjaer, Thiaw, Messias, Pobega, Vranckx.

Official Sassuolo XI (4-3-3): Consigli; Marchizza, Erlic, Tressoldi, Rogerio; Obiang, Frattesi, Traore; Berardi, Defrel, Laurentie.

Bench: Pegolo, Russo; Ferrari, Kyriakopoulos; Harroui, Henrique, M. Lopez, Thorstvedt; Álvarez, Ceide, D’Andrea.

  1. Agree with most of this. The priority right now is to stop conceding goals.
Rebic will finally provide some help to Theo and Leao could use a wake-up call as well.

  2. Vasques had to be patient a lot. I imagine pioli telling him that he doesn’t fit into milan’s system of play yet.
And it took 2-3 seasons to adapt. no matter how much he tries during practice

  3. This Goalkeeper is part of our Fialure
And the coach is repeating the error while he exoects Different Result.
Lazatic is to be lines up instead of Giorud

  4. I get that we are not defending well and tata is definitely part of the problem, but man we are offering nothing going forward. All Tonali does is cross the ball to Giroud, It exasperates me every single time. Even Sassuolo has a much better build up than we do. What is Pioli doing in training? Surely the tactic cant be crossing to Giroud? Also this defense is clearly shaky either play with 3 mid or defenders, this is getting exhausting.

  5. I’m sick watching tata plays! the second goal was his fault, the third he could do much better! we have terrible back up keeper, mediocre RW and invisible playmaker!

  6. We may be 3-1 down at the break but i feel we have shown more of a threat than recent games. Cdk and Rebic have done pretty well.
    Our defence is horrible though.
Honestly im surprised pioli hasn’t gone for 433, in order to get some control and cover for defence.
Doesn’t matter who you are, first you must gain some control and solidity then you have a platform to attack

  7. There is no way this sassulo team has better team than us or more quality than us. Merit where it’s due and shame where its due. Management hasnt done us any favors but pioli has completely lost it. Same tactics game in game out. Never fixed the defense in set pieces etc etc, lost the plot. We should all thank him but thats it. Sort of ranieri situation. Allthough he was sacked much earlier ( i could be wrong.) He has got to go. From pioli is on fire to pioli got fired.

      1. Season is getting interesting for us finally. After knowing that scudetto was out of reach, there was no excitement left, so we have been dropping points so that the fans can see Milan fighting for the 6th position. Don’t worry guys, we will definitely fight back to keep the 6th position.

  8. Believe me guys.. we don’t have a coach..He doesn’t have the quality to coach Milan.. Same information and bad selection.. Maldini need to wake and act like a Milan.. We need a good coach.. Am very angry
