Official: Schedule for second part of the season confirmed for AC Milan Women

By Steph Insixiengmay -

The first half of the Serie A Femminile season has come to an end and the AC Milan Women went out in style with a 4-0 win over Como, cementing their place in the top half of the league’s table.

As a result, the team will qualify for the next phase of the season, which starts on March 18th. Unlike in previous years, this year’s title will not be determined by whoever wins the most games throughout a season.

Rather, it will be decided through a round-robin tournament known as the Poule Scudetto (‘Title Round’). The tournament will not only determine a title winner but who qualifies for next season’s Champions League.

This competition is one of the many changes that the FIGC have made to the league after they professionalized it. One of the many reasons why these changes were implemented was so that the players would play more games. This would not only make them more competitive but also improve their match fitness, thus improving their overall health.

The rules

The five teams that finished in the top half of the table will carry over their points from the first phase (season). Goal differences over other teams and the results of direct clashes will also be taken into consideration.

If the teams somehow end up on level points at the end of the tournament, then other factors will come into play to break the stalemate. These tiebreakers include the number of points obtained and goals scored in four head-to-head matches. Two matches from the first half of the season will be a determining factor, along with two direct clashes during the Scudetto round.

At the end of this tournament, the team with the most points will win the title, and the teams that finished first and second will qualify for Europe.
