AC Milan have confirmed that Alvaro Morata has agreed a deal to join Galatasaray on an initial loan deal which includes an option to buy.

It has been a strange few months for Morata, who only joined Milan during the most recent summer transfer window but will now depart after six months at the club in favour of a switch to Turkey.

Ultimately, the Spaniard failed to hit the ground running and concerns grew about his lack of goal return. The change in head coach to Sergio Conceicao brought a lot of transfer activity and the 32-year-old was no longer deemed a key part of the plans.

A statement on the official website reads as follows: “AC Milan can confirm that Álvaro Morata has joined Galatasaray SK on loan. The Turkish club will retain an option to make the deal permanent.

“The Club would like to thank Álvaro for the total dedication and professionalism he has shown and wishes him all the best in his professional and personal life going forward.”

Meanwhile, Galatasaray have also published a statement in which they go into specifics as to the figures of the operation.

“An agreement has been reached with AC Milan SPA Club for the temporary transfer of professional football player Álvaro Borja Morata Martín between February 2, 2025 and January 20, 2026.

“Accordingly, a total temporary transfer fee of 6,000,000 euros will be paid to AC Milan SPA Club.

“To the football player: 3,000,000 euros for the second half of the 2024-2025 season, a guaranteed fee of 3,000,000 euros will be paid for the first half of the 2025-2026 season.

“In addition, our club has the option to make the definitive transfer of the player for a fee of 8,000,000 euros, provided that written notice is given by January 15, 2026. This fee will be paid in 6 installments.

“If our club does not exercise the purchase option as of January 15, 2026, it has the option to extend the lease period free of charge until June 30, 2026.

“If the rental period is extended, a guaranteed fee of 3,000,000 euros will be paid for the second half of the 2025-2026 season.

“In addition, our club will have the option to make the definitive transfer of the player for 9,000,000 euros by giving written notice until June 10, 2026. This fee will be paid in 6 installments.

“If the purchase option is exercised, the following guaranteed fees will be paid to the player: 6,000,000 euros for the 2026-2027 season, 6,000,000 euros for the 2027-2028 season. It is respectfully announced to the public.”

  1. It is obvious why flops are tough to handle.
Milan paid huge gross salary to Morata who scored only 5 goals. I still can remember sitters he missed.
So temporarily Milan resolved problem of Morata. Let’s hope Gala will took him because Napoli rejected their 65 million offer for Osimhen.

We don’t have luck with our back ups. Okafor and Chukwueze. Ruben Loftus lost his impact so in summer will be interesting what moves are they going to make.
Never forget Origi. They should find home for loan him…

  2. Kick the can down the road for 12 months, but probably for the best. I still think Morata will come good after a good summer break and getting his mind back, I guess we’ll find out next January. Good transparency in how the clubs are working around the 12 month loan limit.

  3. I knew it’s far from a simple loan with obligation to buy scenario (as it’s first rumored). Always a complicated deal when it comes to Turkish clubs.
