Official: Bakayoko leaves Chelsea after two-year loan spell at Milan

By Isak Möller -

Tiemoue Bakayoko spent the last two seasons on loan at AC Milan but only registered 649 minutes of playing time. On their official website, Chelsea have announced that his return will not materialise either.

The Frenchman played a mere 39 minutes this past season and it was painfully clear that Stefano Pioli didn’t have him in his plans. A return to Chelsea never appeared likely, either, and this has now been confirmed on their website.

In an official statement, Chelsea confirm that Bakayoko has left the English side despite having one year left on his contract. The midfielder will thus be free to sign for another club on a free transfer.

Milan are fully focused on reinforcing the midfield ahead of next season, with Davide Frattesi as one of their main targets, and will want to avoid another Bakayoko-esque mistake. With Giorgio Furlani closely monitoring the mercato business, this will surely not happen.

  1. I think he played worse the season before rather than this one. This season when he came on he did fairly well and didnt make as many mistakes as other subs or compared to last yr. In his first year with us he was quite good of course after he got his feet sorted out. As with any player, the more time you give them the better they perform and he could have been useful. However his time is clearly not with Milan. Hope he is happy wherever he goes

  2. Thank you Bakayoko!
In your first spell at Milan, you became an undisputed starter under Gattuso, after a sloppy beginning. Your return wasn’t exactly what we anticipated, but you were still part of the scudetto success. Wish you the best of luck, wherever you go. Grazie Bakayoko
