Official: Bologna vs. AC Milan starting XIs – four changes from Roma draw

AC Milan will close our the round of Serie A action on Tuesday night with a potentially tricky trip to face Bologna.

Milan go into the game at the Stadio Renato dall’Ara under pressure to win with Inter, Napoli and Juventus all getting three points over the weekend. After failing to get a deadline day move for Jean-Philippe Mateta done, Massimiliano Allegri’s side will battle a crisis in attack too.

Bologna vs. AC Milan: Official starting XIs

Alexis Saelemaekers and Christian Pulisic have not made the trip to Emilia with both battling muscle issues. Santiago Gimenez will also be out as he continues to recover from surgery, while Rafael Leao and Niclas Füllkrug only make the bench.

As a consquence, Allegri tested and has opted to use the unprecedented front two of Ruben Loftus-Cheek just behind Christopher Nkunku. Zachary Athekame comes in on the right side for Saelemaekers, his second league start, with Davide Bartesaghi on the other side.

Adrien Rabiot, Luka Modric and Youssouf Fofana have been selected as the midfield trio ahead of Koni De Winter, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic in defence. Mike Maignan – fresh off a renewal until 2031 – is the captain and goalkeeper.

Official Milan XI (3-5-1-1): Maignan; De Winter, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Athekame, Fofana, Modric, Rabiot, Bartesaghi; Loftus-Cheek; Nkunku.

Bench: Torriani, Terracciano; Tomori, Odogu, Estupinan; Ricci, Jashari; Leao, Fullkrug.

Official Bologna XI (4-3-3): Ravaglia; Zortea, Casale, Heggem, Miranda; Freuler, Ferguson; Orsolini, Odgaard, Rowe; Castro.

Bench: Franceschelli, Pessina; Helland, João Mário, Lykogiannis, Vitík; Moro, Pobega, Sohm; Bernardeschi, Cambiaghi, Dallinga, Domínguez.

  1. everyone will sure comment on the forward (or lack thereof) . I’m excited to see Athekame. Let’s see what the kid can do. He has been ok when he’s on.

    1. Fr. I dont understand his obsession with not playing Fullkrug. Why do we have a #10 and a #8 up top when their is an actual center forward on the bench? Its ridiculous

      1. Injuries, injuries, injuries. FFS. are people living under rocks? Fullkrug has a toe injury, Leao has pubalgia, Pulisic has something else (not even on the bench).

        1. Yes Fullkrug has a toe injury.
But if you are going to give him a painkiller and play the last 30 mins.
Why not give him a jab and play the first 60 mins with a proper CF? Then exit the game
          ??

          1. Because the sort of injection you are talking about is destructive to the joint.

Further such injections inhibit healing. Both by their chemical nature and by allowing the player to reaggrevate the injury.

What if we could be 0-2 up at the half and let NK, CP and RL rest up?

  2. Does allegri want us to finish behind Inter???? What the H is his deadly allergy to using a REAL STRIKER up top? Why is Fullkrug on the bench?????? RLC can barely perform as a CM, and now you play him up top? When is he gonna get over himself and realize this pitiful attempt to play guys who aren’t strikers up top DOES NOT WORK. Its been obvious to everyone it doesn’t and has already cost us enough points. Thos blatant refusal to accept reality is gonna end with us in 2nd or lower if Napoli get their mess together…

  3. Yikes
We generally show little to no attacking threat under Allegri, im guessing tonight it will be zero.

Most likely scenario we have zero shots on target in the first half and eventually throw everyone forward after they score to rescue a 1-1

  4. We really need a win here but so do they so it probably wont end up as a draw unless both teams shows up with a scared approach. I expect a pretty open match but hopefully we will be able to put them to the sword.

    1. Actually that has been the case for all the season, most often bottom half teams has bigger benches than us even if we usually has a stronger one.

      1. He is having a good game, but the details are still lacking. It’s like he was due for one of those PSG performances again. But now that I know what to look for the way he loses the ball and gets knocked off it so easily (like he is Nkunku size) doesn’t let me get beyond happy for the team and suspect of RLC.

Hope he had a few of these in a row, not expecting it tho.

  5. We’re not the same side we were a few months ago… It can’t be that every single season we have to go through an injury crisis while iNteR sail through with hardly any..

  6. I don’t trust us scoring first this early. We need to score in the last 15 min to have any chance of holding onto this with Allegri ball..

  7. 2-0
The foul that lead to the penalty kick had me coughing so much that I had to go out and puke a bit 😀

  8. The referee has done a great job officiating this match. We’ve been solid in containing Bologna as well. Not everything requires aggression. Just keep it smooth and clean in the 2nd and we should be cruising to a win.

  9. Its a improvement on last game where our attack was not in the game at all. Ruben is clumsy at times but he atleast tries to go forward and when he do lock in he can be very good. Happy to see Nkunku more involved as well

  10. Ok I don’t know football anymore ,🤷‍♂️. Is Allegri a crazy scientist/misunderstood genius? Dude starts the oddest strike pair and both scores lol i give up 😂🤣🤣

    1. Well even Frankenstein’s monster had its redeeming qualities 😛 Kidding aside we have had a pretty fine first half. Nkunku has looked much more involved and well Cheek has his moments even if it would be nice if it happened more often then he is nevertheless a pretty big guy who can use his physique.
Positively surprised that we lead 2-0 at least after only the first half.

      1. Agreed. That’s the most frustrating part of his play. He should be bullying his way in the league but we only does this once Ina blue moon and guess what the moon’s been weird these days lol 😂

  11. Not much of a fan of Nkunku.

But that is 5 goals since Dec. He worked hard to get that first one for RLC.

He earned the two pens he scored.

He is much more involved/active when we are not in possession today.

I’d like to be more of a fan
