Cagliari-Milan starting XIs

Official: Cagliari vs. AC Milan starting XIs – Camarda debut from start confirmed

Paulo Fonseca has named his starting XI for AC Milan’s encounter with Cagliari and as announced yesterday, Francesco Camarda plays from start.

The manager has made three changes to the starting XI compared to the win against Real Madrid, bringing in Strahinja Pavlovic, Samuel Chukwueze and Francesco Camarda. In other words, the defence and midfield have remained almost completely untouched.

Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders both did a great job at the Santiago Bernabeu, so it’s understandable why Fonseca wants to continue with them. Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori also impressed, but the latter has been replaced by Strahinja Pavlovic.

Samuel Chukwueze has taken Yunus Musah’s spot in the starting XI as Milan are back to the more ‘attacking-minded’ line-up, also that’s a bit crazy to say after scoring three goals last time out. The exclamation mark, of course, is Camarda getting the chance up front.

The striker has featured for the first team before, of course, but this is his first game from start and he thus becomes one of the youngest players to do so for the club.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Emerson Royal, Thiaw, Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez; Reijnders, Fofana; Chukwueze, Pulisic, Leao; Camarda.

Bench: Sportiello, Torriani; Calabria, Terracciano, Tomori; Loftus-Cheek, Musah; Abraham, Okafor.

Official Cagliari XI (4-2-3-1): Scuffet; Zappa, Palomino, Luperto, Augello; Deiola, Makoumbou; Zortea, Viola, Luvumbo; Piccoli.

Bench: Ciocci, Scuffet; Azzi, Obert, Wieteska; Felici, Gaetano, Jankto, Marin, Prati; Lapadula, Mutandwa, Pavoletti.

  1. Alright folks, let’s get down from the euphoria of bearing Real mid week and how about we resume to normality haha 😅.
That being said, let’s go boys!

      1. It’s not just the tight spaces but also the fact that Cagliari’s CB who will fight him is big and strong, which is a problem for Camarda who lacks the muscle mass, at his tender age.

But hey, maybe he will manage to get unmarked and will head one in, or maybe the big bad wolf will commit a penalty on him.

Forza Camarda! We are all rooting for you!

  2. Looking forward to the match but wasn’t it originally in the plans that the match should be played at 20 45 compared to the now 18 00 ?

Time to keep up the momentum and not rest on our laurels just because we won against Real Madrid midweek. Starting Camarda will be interesting to behold but besides of that he will drop down more in his game as Morata does compared to Abraham and starting him will most likely also keep his team mates on their toes so this could easily be a very shrewd move by Fonseca.

    1. Bro calm down. Y’all are quick to judge. They scored in the 2nd minute thru a corner kick that you can’t really blame on anyone. After that goal Cag hasn’t done much. Be patient some times. lol

  3. I can’t remember the last time we had a midfielder that can make such a pass. Wow. Reijnders is really blossoming in Fonseca’s system.

    1. That’s the exact pass he made to Theo against Madrid too. But Theo was trying to find the assistant referee than scoring lol.

Yes tijj is blossoming well, what some of his haters here won’t agree to.

  4. Happy for Camarda, but the way this is shaping up, with a compact and physical Cagliari, we will need Tammy’s physical presence sooner rather than later.

  5. Nice lob for that goal.

That’s what I wanted. To see more of that from Deer boy.
Happy also for Leao to get back close to his season average with that one goal lol

  6. Apart from the goal we haven’t done a thing up front. But in the back… mistake after mistake.

    Chuku isn’t cooking 😕

  7. Omg, Royal is so bad. Just not AC Milan level. This need to be fixed next summer when Calabria leaves on a free. A true starter needs to be brought in or someone from Futuro needs to be given a chance so that this guy goes to the bench.

  8. Even though I’m happy that we fought back from 0-1 behind after the first minute and now leads 2-1 then I can’t seem to shake off feeling that we could easily have been down with a couple of goals.
Hopefully Cagliari will run out of steam quickly because they deserve better than the current result.

      1. Yeah its been worrying for the most of the half and we definitely should get a player like Ricci, Frendrup or even better bring back Tonali as soon as possible.

        1. Tonali wouldn’t do anything about 4 crosses that our defenders refuses to defend. Our midfield is actually doing okay. Cag just keeps passing side to side

          1. I definitely think we need one of those 3 or someone like them but I will agree though that our backs has been looking shaky for large parts of the match.

        2. It’s not even the midfield problem. Fonseca commits 2 many players 2 high then we lose the ball and golden ticket to Mike for opposition

  9. They are getting to all loose balls and we stability in the mf – Chuck’s all over the shop, confusing things – definitely need Musah mopping up here..

    1. I would rather bring on Terra or Jimenez for Emerson so Chuk can have freedom to play. Emerson is just terrible as a RB. I don’t even think he’s ever tried crossing the ball today it’s shameful as a RB.

      1. Constantly beaten, caught out of position and slow. And not just this match, it’s his usual showing. The worst RB to ever wear this jersey.

  10. How many times do Cagliari need to put the ball in the net before we change our formation??

It’s 2-2 now and they will win this if we dont change quickly

    1. Also why is it so easy to make a cross field pass to the right side…aka we all know who’s side it is. It’s been abysmal. It’s so easy to walk through that side

  11. Only stupid coach changes things after a win against Real Madrid! This team will never be consistent if they play different way every game.

    1. He didn’t change anything. All they did in Madrid game is double Vini. There is no Vini in Cag so…. All teams don’t play the same and you adjust according to the opponents that’s all.

  12. Is anybody else understanding what Fonseca is doing with Leao and why he needed him to sit for a couple of games ? He has Leao playing more narrow and not just standing wide on the lines. This is perfect and will help Leao score even more goals. Having him sit helped him see what he can do in this tactical setup and I’m loving it. He has Leao being the one bringing pressure when the opposition goalie has the ball and that keeps him involved. I noticed this in the game against Madrid too. Let Fonseca keep cooking

  13. This was not on Fonseca by any means. Theo is so dang terrible at defending. All thtee goals from his end and that 3rd one was worse. How didn’t you defend the person behind you ?? Smh
