Official: Daniel Maldini joins Monza on permanent deal until 2026

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Monza have confirmed the return of Daniel Maldini from AC Milan and this time he will join them on a permanent basis rather than on another loan spell.

The attacking midfielder went on loan to Empoli last season until January and then went to Monza where he did much better, scoring four goals in 11 appearances, but there were doubts about which shirt he would wear in the 2024-25 season.

Maldini was a surprise protagonist in the first friendly of the summer as he got the assist for Alessandro Florenzi’s opening goal against Rapid Wien, having drifted wide from the centre-forward role that he was put in.

Now, Monza have confirmed on their official website that Maldini has returned to them following his successful loan. The Milan Primavera graduate has signed a contract until 30 June 2026, with option of renewal if certain conditions are met.

There is no mention of any fee paid, but a number of sources have suggested that Milan will get no transfer fee up front or a very little sum at the most, and in exchange for that they have managed to insert a 50% resale clause entitling them to half of any money Monza get from a sale down the line.

  1. Such a bad deal. Best of luck to Daniel. Hope you can proof to all the doubters that you’re more than just your surname.

  2. Good luck Maldini, if you really performed admirably, who knows maybe Milan will buy you back in the future. Best of Luck.

  3. By the looks of it all clubs in the world doubted him. His only save was Galliani making his old buddy Paolo a favour and bought his son.

    1. Haha we have nonsense comments around here but to say that Galliani would jeopardize the entire sake of the football team he’s running to make a « favor » is priceless. Maldini had better stats in six months with Monza than Chukwueze in one year. Make yourself a « favor » and find yourself some MLS team to follow man.

      1. Better stats but take Galliani more than a month to sign him with just 2 years contract, but this is Barth after all

  4. Can’t understand why we are selling Maldini and Colombo when we desperately need ex academy players to fill squad depth for the UEFA list.

    1. Who told you we desperately need them? We only need 1 ex academy player. And both of them are far from the quality we need

  5. One thing is selling Maldini which is an idea I’m not too fond of either but to sell him assumably on a low fee with a 50% resale clause and him only signing on a 2 year contract with an option for a further year most likely means we wont see a resaonable fee going in our direction down the road.
I see this more as a statement from the management than good business.

    1. Furlani should sing the US national anthem before games and relocate the team to Las Vegas so it would be even more modern.

  6. They couldn’t wait to get rid of this guy like they did to his father and Galliani took advantage. Good for him and Monza.

He has the talent. Here’s hoping he does really well and come back to Milan in a few years’ time, hopefully by then under different management.

  7. Galliani played this so well. Recall that interview a few weeks back where he said we’re fine in attack lol. I loved it. Classic G. Best of luck Daniel. Thought u should have left the nest earlier though but there’s still a little bit of time to get back in track.

  8. If common sense will prevail, it’s a two-year loan. Just like Ibrahim Diaz. Redbird has learnt from its mistakes last summer and during the last year to make such a move now.
