Official: Empoli vs. AC Milan starting XIs – one change from Roma win

Sergio Conceicao has named his starting XI for tonight’s game between AC Milan and Empoli. Contrary to reports, the manager has decided to make just one change. 

The fans got to see some of the new signings in the win against Roma on Wednesday, with Joao Felix even finding the back of the net. Tonight, the Chelsea loanee will play from start and make his full debut, but the rest of the signings will have to wait.

It’s also the only change by Conceicao, starting him in place of Christian Pulisic, but it seems Milan will line up with a 4-4-2 formation tonight. That would mean having Alex Jimenez on the left, with Yunus Musah taking the step out on the right.

If it’s a 4-3-3, then Jimenez will be the right-winger with Joao Felix on the left. It’s also worth noting that Tijjani Reijnders won’t get the reported rest, which is a tad surprising given the tight schedule.

    1. Had the same question🤣🤣🤣
      We should rest Reijnders and Fofana and he plays both. Wired formation with musah and Jimenez. Maybe he trys to Balance the Formation to get defensiv stability

      1. No one is asking for a complete overhaul, but please rest reijnders. If he keeps this up, he might have an injury. This is just senseless from him.

    2. Leao is nursing an injury and Puli is coming back from one.

      The points are crucial for UCL.

      Glad Puli is getting a rest. Wish Reinjders or Fofana was as well.

      Hope to see Sottil at the half with Musah moving inside for Reinjders or Fofana, and Barts or Terraciano for Theo.

      This presumes we come out to win in the first 30 min

        I thought it was Gimenez, it’s actually Jimenez.

        Yeah, it’s a 4-4-2, this really looks interesting, I believe we can effectively execute this.

  7. I guess he is resting puli and leao for CL. However, fofana and reijnders still marching. Maybe he’ll take them off early if the score is positive.

  8. We need consistency and stability. Let Fofana and Reijnders play, and when we are in the lead, we can make substitutions to rest players.

  9. Not liking Musah there. Might as well try to field Sottil on the left and Jimenez on the right. No problem in starting Fofana and Tijani. With the plan (or hope) to secure the game on 1st half and several hauls on 2nd half.

    The priority must surely be the CL!
    If we cant rotate against Empoli wtf are we doing.

    Tiji and Fofana have been really poor recently so rotating is not only good to help them recover but necessary given their levels recently

    I know everyone is super excited about all our attackers, but the midfield is still a disaster in waiting

      1. I don’t disagree. They are very anxious to watch. I think they could get pulled all over the place by a smart team.
        Gabbia and Thiaw seem more solid positionally

  13. Seems Conceicao is not a coaches who would be reading the news and then try to name a line up similar to what’s written just to be on the safer side when things don’t work out. Good and bad in this attitude.

    1. Conceicaoball. Putz around in the first half, concede one, and then score two in the second half when Gimenez, Leao and Pulisic are all thrown on to save the result.

  15. What’s wrong with the referee? No penalty for Abraham, no red or at least a yellow card for the foul on Walker. A yellow for Félix. No foul for pulling Jiménez.

    1. Yeh and nearly breaking Walker’s leg – at this point the ref may as well be wearing an Empoli shirt… we have been playing acting a bit too but it’s definitely going their way.

    1. What a bad call by the ref. Didn’t even check VAR. THE FLAG WAS RAISED AS WELL. that’s not a mistake, it’s on purpose.

  23. One thing Chuk will always have over Jimenez is his decision making. Jimenez could dribble the whole world and work hard but his decision making is Terrible!!

    SMH … This is YACI – yet another coaching issue. We are not set up and prepped to beat an Empoli team on an 8 game losing streak.

    1. It was only a matter of time. Clownceicao has been choosing headless chickens Tomori and Pavlovic over Gabbia and Thiaw, who had 4 clean sheets in Fonseca’s last 6 games, and had the 5th best defense re goals conceded at the time.

    1. C’mon. It was yellow all the way. No excuses. If Sarge knows his players then Tomorrow should not have started the second half.

      2. Maybe but wasn’t Tomori going for the ball? Feels like there’s no allowance for physical contact anymore in football.. Plus the ref has had it in for us all night – and previous nights..

  38. Did Sarge catch Gabbia and his daughter under the duvet and he is getting punished for it? Cause I don’t understand why Gab has been relegated to the 4th defender in that order. He was and still is a better defender, and makes whomever pairs with him look good. So what’s with Sarge?

  47. Thats Leao‘s best position for me – coming off the bench to score; because the rest of his work is lazy; Nice league debut for Santi, but we have a problem in MF and I think it’s Fofana – hope Bondo can bring something when he is fit – I‘ll take the 3 pts but more work to do
