Official: Flamengo confirm signing of Emerson Royal from AC Milan on permanent deal

Late last night, Emerson Royal’s departure was confirmed, with the Brazilian not managing more than 12 months with AC Milan.

It is easier to pick out the few good moments with Emerson Royal than the bad; we’d be here a while. The full-back arrived with a negative reaction, and this followed through his limited Milan career, which could, and probably should, have ended a few months before now.

For those who don’t remember, a sale was lined up in the January mercato. However, the full-back was chosen to play in the Champions League against Girona, where he suffered a long-term injury, cancelling the deal.

Emerson leaves Milan

Coming to this summer, then, a sale was always probable. However, there were rumblings of a few loan ideas. Nevertheless, the Diavolo have opted to cut ties with immediate impact and have sold him to Flamengo.

The deal was confirmed in the late hours of last night, and around €9 million has been made from the deal, with Milan recording a loss of €6m in less than 12 months. Talk about burning money quickly.

For a move that was never really wanted by the fans, it has ended how many would have imagined. A wake-up call, indeed.

  6. It’s not a real loss. If we didn’t sell him for this amount, consider the wages we would have to pay. In the end, we did alright. Would have done better not signing him in the first place, but under the circumstances we probably had the best exit out of the situation.

    And Emerson at least understood and was willing to move. Unlike others leeching.

    At the end of the day, he wasn’t selfish.

    1. Agreed. Great relief rather than him becoming the next Origi draining our resources.

      The only thing better would have been using him as part-exchange for Wesley and thereby solving our RB dilemma.

      Happy that Emerson is gone, almost no fans wanted him at all and baffling the club saw any quality in him

  8. We sold kalulu for this guy. What a horrific thing to do. I’m still waiting to hear who’s decision that was and why they have not been fired.

    Thank goodness he is gone, we don’t have to watch him anymore nor listen to the trumpesque Gerry boys who insisted on him being a better option than what we had

  9. Good deal all around, and genuinely wish him all the best. Wasn’t the best but he was in a poor team and blamed for things that certainly weren’t his fault. There’s a good athlete and talent in there, I hope he can find it in the right environment.

    1. Sure. But Furlani, Moncada, Fonseca are directly responsible (plus Conceicao indirectly). And who’s fault is it that he cant defend, cross or make simple passes?

        1. Furlani thought it was a revolutionary idea to work without an SD. Or is that on Moncada too?

          They are all to blame.

  12. Side note – Joao Felix signed with Al Nassr. He was the most meaningless signing last season;\ a complete ‘friends and family’ deal. Guess Al Nassr got the clear “not gonna happen” with Pulisic!

  13. What??? Unbelievable!!! AND we got money for him on top of that?? Holy 👏👏👏👏 well done. This might be the greatest transfer we do this summer.
    We got rid of Calabria and Kululu to make way for this guy. I’ll repeat that, we got rid of Calabria and Kululu for Royal ‘waste of time even though people tried hard to argue it was a good deal’ Emerson! And now we have zero proper right backs lol 😂 😂 😂 we just love creating issues where there aren’t any.

    1. I get the sentiment about Kalulu. But Kalulu was playing more as CB. Calabria, however, was even worse than Emerson. Someone took Emerson for money. Calabria is done and dusted. He can’t even find a club.

      1. Calabria was definitely not worse than Emerson. He was better in almost every stat that him both offensively and defensively. You can check my comments at the time as a refresher, I displayed them there. Also, Calabria is know to be Kvara’s kryptonite and defends well against the likes of MBappe. What is Emerson known for? Being a weak link in defence? What Calabria is doing now is irrelevant.
        Kululu can play both CB and RB but he was the best option for RB out of all the options we had, plus we were stacked at CB
        But the fact of the matter is those events are what in summary took place.

    2. These weren’t linked decisions. They were a series of bad decisions made together. We sold Kalulu to Juve AND we decided to buy Emerson for 15mil + Bonuses.

      Calabria was on his way out either way.

      1. We forced out an excellent young player who wanted to stay. A player very capable at RB/RCB and replaced him with Emerson and then Walker. Ouch, still wish we had Kalulu

      2. Bro with all due respect, at the end of the day this was the final result. Kalulu was pushed out so too Calab, I agree but that’s exactly the point…it was for Emerson. It’s very simple. With Emerson’s arrival, it spelled the end for Calabria as 1. It’s his spot (rb) and direct competition, 2. Emerson became starter at RB and 3. The club didn’t want him at the club anymore and thought Emerson was better (somehow).

  14. Thank GOD! One of the dumbest transfers in our entire history. Getting rid of Calabria and Kalulu for him and walker. Absolute Brainrot decisions. Glad that management had to swallow their pride and basically publicly admit they screwed it all up

    1. Imagine last summer we had, Kalulu, Calabria, Florenzi, Saelemakers and Jimenz and we bought Emerson.
      Its so dumb perhaps it was more some corruption or bribe than a decision, only way it makes sense .

      Imo he is worse than all 5 of those listed
