Earlier today, it was confirmed by the Serie A assembly that the Supercoppa Italiana will keep a four-team format for the 2024-25 season. As things stand, AC Milan will participate in the tournament.
Ahead of the current season, it was decided that the Supercoppa Italiana would be a four-team tournament in Saudi Arabia, with two semi-finals and a final. Inter came out on top in the first edition with this format, beating Lazio in the semi-final and Napoli in the final.
As cited by MilanNews, it was decided during the Serie A assembly earlier today that the tournament will keep the four-team format for the 2024-25 season as well. It will take place in January 2025 and it’s believed that the total prize money will be around €17m for the participating clubs.
For example, the winners Inter took home €8m from the tournament, which is indeed a decent figure. As things stand, Milan will be part of the 2025 edition given that they are second in the league standings.
Should Juventus reach the final of the Coppa Italia, then third place would also be enough provided that the Bianconeri finish second. While it will inevitably make the schedule a pain, the financial incentive is hard to turn down for Milan.
