Official: Gil Manzano will officiate Milan vs. Dinamo Zagreb – the precedents

By Oliver Fisher -

UEFA have confirmed that they have appointed Gil Manzano as referee of the Champions League match that will see AC Milan face Dinamo Zagreb at San Siro.

The match will be the second of the group stage and is of huge importance for both teams given that Dinamo beat Chelsea in the first round of group games and are therefore the early pace setters, while the Rossoneri will be looking to get their first win and potentially go top.

Our colleagues at SempreMilan.it report that Manzano has refereed two Milan games before. The first was in the qualifying round of the Europa League against Rio Ave that ended 10-11 for the Rossoneri on penalties, and then the match drawn with Red Star at San Siro (1-1, Milan went through on away goals), both in the 2020-21 season.

There is one precedent involving Dinamo Zagreb who curiously faced another Italian team in Atalanta, winning 4-0 in the 2019-20 season.
