Official: Theo Hernandez to serve two game suspension – the games he misses

AC Milan will be without one of their captains after Theo Hernandez – their captain for the game against Fiorentina – got himself sent off at the end of the game.

Paulo Fonseca follows the school of thought that several players should be captain, rather than following the traditional idea of a captain and vice captain. Whilst this has its benefits, it can also have several negative areas, and Theo displayed that on Sunday.

Against Fiorentina, Hernandez had a performance of nightmares, not only did he give away a penalty, but he took a penalty from Christian Pulisic – much to the annoyance of Fonseca – and missed that. To make matters worse, he got sent off for arguing with the referee.

He did all this whilst wearing the captain’s armband – which should be an honour, a sign of maturity, leadership, and quality. Theo showed the opposite, perhaps a sign that he is not ready for such a role.

It is possible that the Portuguese head coach would consider dropping him in the next fixture against Udinese, but with his red card, he will miss that game and the one against Bologna, as the Serie A website confirms, then he could have a chance at redemption against Napoli.

Fears were present that he could miss that game, but with confirmation that he will only serve a two-game ban, he has a lengthy period to refind his mental state. He will be eligible for the Champions League, though.

  1. Somehow, I always taught that Theo is our worthy captain. He is hot headed, but I had the impression during last season that he really paid attention each time he was the captain. This year is different. Its obvious that the club structure and the couch have caused a bad atmosphere within the squad, but senior guys like Theo, Leao should do their best to keep the squad united. Not to poor gas to the fire.

  2. Honestly the reaction from some fans really is pathetic.

You’re supposed to rally around your players not engage in this holier-than-thou nonsense.

Players make mistakes. It happens. You support them because over long seasons and long careers the good outweigh the bad.

Look how many incidents Ramos and Pepe were involved in and look at how many trophies they have.

Get over yourselves and stop using this is another excuse to roll the dice on the transfer market.

    1. You can be a sport and show us the way by rallying around Reijnders and showing him support. Do that and the rest will follow. 🙂

      1. I merely pointed out specific issues with Reijnders’ lack of contribution and then complimented him for a slightly improved performance against Fiorentina.

My criticisms were all technical. I never once insulted him, demanded he be sold or go into idle gossip.

        Criticism is allowed.

Although it seems me criticising Reijnders with his amazing stats upsets the Group.

        1. Critiscism is also allowed when the man wearing the armband behaves with such disrespect to his manger, his team mate and the jersey

          1. Sure criticise away but we’re into the realms of idle gossip and insults with the usual calls for everyone to be sold.

        2. Agree. Théo and Leao already proved themselves with Milan. They did their best, trained hard, won a Scudetto, etc. They are failed by a management that just looks at the financial sheets. While Reijnders still has to prove himself despite being so much hyped.

          1. LOL. So they played well 3 years ago and everything they now do is automatically forgiven. Wow. You’d let them get away with rape and murder too thanks to the scudetto?

          2. Well that simply isn’t enough.

Just an example here not especially related to them as such though but here it goes, some players arrives at big clubs and think they have made it. That attitude or view will just cause players to either stagnate or not further progress,
Real champions always wants to improve and win every single time. Those who doesn’t come with a never surrender always hungry attitude isn’t real champions.
We won a scudetto in 2022, great and appreciate it and adore them for it but as I percieve things we wont be back until we actually has won cl and the club world cup and I’ll even argue more than once.
NEVER rest on your laurels is the right attitude forward.

          3. Oh so it’s OK for their performances to steadily go down the shaft because they won a Scudetto 3 years ago? Nevermind maintaining a professional attitude, showing everyday to work for the millions you’re paid and leading by example as the senior players?

But hey, we’re back to Reijnders again…. FFS …

          4. Funny. Some fans are saying for over a year that the recruiting is a mess, with no veterans, no proven players. Now there is a random coach who never led top players and top clubs. The management also clearly doesn’t have any respect for the players or anyone for that matter. Some fans are saying for over a year that it’s a recipe for catastrophe. And some fans are still scratching their heads wondering how Milan is in that situation.

          5. “And some fans are still scratching their heads wondering how Milan is in that situation.”

OK. Name one guy here who is that clueless. 🙂

It seems you’re not that good at reading the room.

        3. @ ACM1899

Their performances aren’t declining. They’re still providing plenty of goals and assists.

They both create multiple attacks each game.

Without them we’d have even less going forward.

      2. Nope they’re still playing well as evidenced by their goals and assists….

They’ve each got more this season than a certain Dutchman.

        1. “Nope they’re still playing well as evidenced by their goals and assists….”

There is sooooooooooo much more to football. The match lasts for 90 minutes and being visible for 5 minutes per match doesn’t cut it.

          1. Well yes there is soooo much more to football like coming to the ball, moving it quickly, winning tackles, making runs which is why Krunic was so important and why Reijnders needs to step up.

But of course your sooooo much more to football seems to have missed these details.

However Theo and Leao also give us something that many other players have done or can do. They regularly provide matching winning moments.

They average about 3 a game. At least 3 times a game they will beat a man and put in a dangerous cross or create an attack often from nothing.

And in the absence of a midfield, they also give us an outlet where they bypass midfield.

    2. You can support the players but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be consequences. As professionals they need to be held accountable for blatant disregard and disrespect to the coach and their teammate(Pulisic). This isn’t just playing a bad game or making mistakes on the pitch.

      1. I don’t know how ‘blatant’ all this is.

This is all idle speculation as none of us were there or heard what was said.

Besides Theo’s is suffering consequences after being suspended.

    3. Sorry mate. I get you but don’t put Theo in the same pedestal as Ramos and Pepe. Those guys command respect in their dressing room, and they know how to keep their cool and when to be mischievous.

It is not thesame as losing one’s head. If anything, the club is giving Theo the chance to be more responsible by giving him the captain handband, but he is not learning fast.

If you ask me, just forget about this seniority matter and give the captain to who deserves it. Mike Magnian.

      1. Ramos and Pepe did lots of stupid things over the years losing their heads and getting sent off.

But because they and others played together for about a decade the good outweighed the bad.

Meanwhile in Milan-land the media and fans are jumping on the hype train because everyone’s getting itchy feet about our left hand side. Time for another revolution.

By the end of the season we could well see the last of our Scudetto winning players leave.

We’ve managed to dismantle a Scudetto winning squad in 3 years, and replace it mostly with players from mid-table clubs in other leagues.

      1. It drives everything in modern football especially at Milan where successive regimes have been dictated to and controlled by it.

  3. Not happy that we wont have him available against Bologna but at least he will be back for the Napoli game so he better pull out something extraordinary in that match.

  4. Milan, for some time now, doesn’t look like a team with a captain. Calabria and Theo are in the habit of giving away penalties, and, getting suspended for many games. Even when they are on the pitch, they don’t seem to carry the team along. Everyone cannot be like Maldini, but, Calabria and Theo don’t know what it means to be the captain. If I were to make a choice, it would be Tomori or Mike.

    1. I can think of one penalty Calabria has conceded and you do understand that defenders are more likely to concede penalties???

Good luck with your imaginary replacement who never concedes penalties!
