Official: Ismael Bennacer joins Marseille on loan with option to buy deal

The deadline day business keeps rolling in for AC Milan as the exit of Ismael Bennacer to Marseille on a loan with option to buy deal has been confirmed.

It has been a rollercoaster day generally for Milan, with Bennacer’s situation right as the centre of it. Calciomercato.com stated that the issue had provoked ‘tension’ because Milan were unhappy with the timing of Marseille’s approach and that Bennacer made it clear he wanted to leave.

They had to scramble for a replacement and got one in Warren Bondo. Fabrizio Romano gave Bennacer to Marseille deal his famous ‘here we go!’ stamp. It is a verbal agreement in place with Milan over a €1m loan fee plus an €12m option to buy clause which is not mandatory.

A statement on the Marseille website reads as follows: “OM is pleased to announce the signing of Ismaël Bennacer from AC Milan. The 27-year-old Algerian international midfielder has signed a loan with an option to buy with the Olympian club after successfully passing his medical.

“Born in the heart of Bouches-du-Rhône in the city of Arles, Ismaël Bennacer began his professional career in his training club AC Arles-Avignon in January 2015. He was quickly spotted by scouts from the London club Arsenal – a club he joined in the summer of 2015 – who detected in him his ability to repeat efforts and his sense of combat. A hard-working midfielder but also skilled with his left foot, the Provençal decided to sign on loan with Tours FC in the winter of 2017.

“After a successful experience with the Tours team, Ismaël Bennacer decided to fly to Italy to join Empoli FC. With the Azzurri jersey, the Algerian learned the Italian tactical rigor and expanded his footballing repertoire, making him a true complete midfielder, as useful for recovery as for projection forward. Author of two successful seasons and winner of a Serie B title, he caught the eye of AC Milan, who decided to bet on the young 21-year-old midfielder and recruit him in the summer of 2019.

“With the San Siro residents, the Arlesian reached a new level in his career and discovered the joys of the European Cups in which he played more than 30 matches and acquired experience of very high-level matches, notably reaching the semi-final stage of the Champions League during the 2022/23 campaign. During five and a half seasons under the Rossonere colors, the tireless midfielder counted 178 matches, won a Scudetto as well as a Supercoppa.

“A true leader of the Fennecs with 50 caps, this OM supporter since his early childhood also has an impressive record with the Algerian team, winning the African Cup of Nations in 2019 and even being named best player in the competition at just 21 years old.”

  1. Seriously, what the hell this one came right out of the air. hasn’t heard anything remotely suggesting that Bennacer was on his way out. Weird @ss January mercato 😀

      1. He never wanted it, the management even flirted with the Saudis and selling Benny to one better club’s down there. But at the end, he understood how the management was thinking of him, he probably knows that he isn’t quite 100% and that Conceicao can’t rely on him

  2. The only people complaining about him leaving are his religious fans, the guy has missed 100 matches since 20/21. That is unacceptable. He’s missed 26 matches this season alone and last season when he was available he never looked to be the same player. No point in keeping dead weight around.

    1. Just a reminder that Origi and Ballo Toure are still getting paid twice the salary of Bennacer for not playing a single match for 3 years. They both have yet to play 2 full matches of 90 minutes. One is getting paid $4m while the other nearly $2m and both earn more than Bennacer who has been with the club for 7 years and help Milan win many matches, trophies and Scuddeto.
This management/owners are clowns. Banter clown era

  3. I’m against his departure IF we can’t get his replacement. But with Bondo, we’re good. Been eyeing for this kid for quite a while.

And looks like Sergio is also prefer Musah than Isma (based on the last press con). So that + the fact the player himself pushed the move smoothen the deal.

  4. Fking d*mbass management

So now the midfield only rely on Reijnders, Fofana, and the useless Musah or RLC 🤦‍♂️

    God help this club 😐

      1. I don’t know who the fvck is Bondo but i got the feeling he’s another overrated and useless players just like Musah and RLC. Heck, Fofanna doesn’t even play that good and a far cry compare to Bennacer, Kessie, and Tonali.

        1. I understand the doubt. Surely not overrated (or overpriced in this case) as we ‘only’ paid 10 mil. Compared to 20ish mil for Musah. And another difference is that he already knows the league pretty well. Let’s see.

    1. With Bennacer on the payroll, Milan midfield only relied on Reijnders, Fofana, and the useless Musah or RLC.
Without Bennacer on the payroll, Milan midfield will rely on Reijnders, Fofana, Bondo, and the useless Musah or RLC.
Acting like Bennacer was useful or actually playing for Milan.
Got yanked at halftime during the derby, that’s how useful he was.
One less deadweight in the squad.

      1. It’s disgusting to see clueless “fans” like you mocking Bennacer and saying unknown player like Bondo who came from Monza, a team at 20th in the league, will help Milan.

You gonna learn not to suck Caddinale’s d*ck when Bondo plays like sh*t just like Emerson Royal, Musah, RLC, Chuk, Abraham, and Moratta.

        God help this club

  5. Why is Milan hell-bent on selling their best midfielders? I just don’t get it. Are they planning on winning matches without midfielders?
    Hakan
    Kessie
    Tonali
    Bennacer

4 world-class midfielders sold, and they were never replaced? Fofana and Reijnders are the only ones who are good. What is going on?

  6. So sad he leave. He have something more special as milan midfielder. The replacement warren Bondo as similar playing, We hope he will more than Benny. Thanks bro Benny 👍
