Official: Juventus vs. AC Milan starting XIs – four changes from Inter loss

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has named his starting line-up for the game against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium, and it features a makeshift defence as expected.

There is once again a defensive crisis for Pioli to battle. Simon Kjaer and Pierre Kalulu are both injured, while Fikayo Tomori picked up his fifth yellow card in the Inter game and thus a one-match ban, before Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria got straight red cards.

Pioli has thus elected to field a back four of Yunus Musah, Malick Thiaw, Matteo Gabbia and Alessandro Florenzi in front of Mike Maignan, with Musah at right-back and Florenzi on the other side.

Tijjani Reijnders will be partnered with Yacine Adli in the midfield double pivot, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will take up a position ahead of them.

Christian Pulisic gets the nod on the right wing, Rafael Leao – who will captain the side – will be on the left and Olivier Giroud will lead the line.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Musah, Thiaw, Gabbia, Florenzi; Adli, Reijnders; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Giroud.

Bench: Sportiello, Nava, Bennacer, Okafor, Chukwueze, Caldara, Terracciano, Simic, Zeroli, Bartesaghi.

Official Juventus XI (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Weah, Cambiaso, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Yildiz, Vlahovic.

Bench: Pinsoglio, Perin, Chiesa, Alex Sandro, Milik, McKennie, Iling-Junior, Kean, Miretti, Rugani, Alcaraz, Djalo, Nicolussi Caviglia.

    1. Luckily Juve will play poorly as usual to allow us to win despite Pioli’s outrageous team selection. Okafor still starting on the bench?? Terracciano will never play? Hopefully beating Juve won’t see some people again asking to keep the him.

  1. My confidence wasn’t too great to begin with after the recent form but it doesnt really help either to see that Musah will actually be fielded as our rb.
Lets at least hope for the best.

  2. My God! This man is dumb for gaddamn sake. Whether we win this game or not, there’s no justification for playing Musah in RB when you have a true RB on your bench. Pioli just doesn’t like young players and it shows everyday. I’m tired of watching our team being coached by this clueless coach. The management gave him more time than he truly deserved honestly. This man should have been gone a while ago.

    1. You’re saying Pioli doesn’t give Terraciano a start means he hate young players when both Musah and Terraciano are 21 years old lmao.

  3. Two players playing out of position (Florenzi and Musah), two out of form players getting starts (Giroud and RLC), and one exhausted player starting again (Puli) over another showing signs of form (Chukwueze). At least you have to hand it to Pioli for sticking to his guns until the bitter end.

  4. So RLC and Giroud who have been in a bad form still start, not to mention Mudah as a RB..Pioli seems like he doesnt want to win this game

    1. 😀 Missed that part 🙁 I seriously hope it has a positive effect on him and that he works his socks off then because a captain that walks around and looks uninterested while smiling when things doesnt goes his way is downright blasphemous in my book.

  5. THERE ARE ONLY THREE JESUS WHO CAN SAVE MILAN

    1. ABATE
    2. ZLATKO DALIC
    3. LIONEL SCALONI

    ABATE IS A UYL FINALIST.

DALIC IS A WORD CUP FINALIST 2018, SEMIFINALIST 2022 AND UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE FINALIST 2023.

SCALONI IS A WORLD CUP WINNER 2022.

    THE REST ARE AVIATOR GAMBLERS

  6. Juv coach played Yildiz and was promoted from under 23 team due to the uninformed Chiesa.
My God Pioli is a one way coach what is he doing with the likes of Olivier G, C Pulisic, Ruben Cheek that has all lost form. He should not be afraid to field Zeroli K and they are inform players like Chukwueze, Jovic/Okafor. Also playing Musa out of position.
This coach has no idea that he can change his information.

  7. So far so good thanks to Juventus who are not being very aggressive even at home, quite possibly the only other top side more poorly coached than Milan. All we need is a draw here.

  8. Side to side, cross and hope for a miracle.
Side to side, erratic shot from florenzi.

    Thats it. That’s our tactics.

Side note: Thiaw is very good at man marking and him and Gabbia has been good today.

    1. Is that why Thiaw has gotten like 3 red cards this year while getting turned? Too good at man marking, I guess. /s

      1. Most red cards were when he was caught on 1 v 1 ( which he can and will get better at with time and a good coach). and that’s not what I meant. When he’s attached to body check a player and stay attached to the player, he does very well in that aspect. Check what he did with Lukaku and what he’s doing with vlahovic too.

  9. Such a boring game. Two ‘lost’ sides playing casually. And Musah, well, where do I have to start.. He’s never been good in that position. And someone keeps playing him in that role. I don’t know which one is worse.

  10. Musah just wanna dribble all the wayyyy, just sub him with terraciano before he gets another yellow..also sub Giroud and RLC, they have done almost nothing in the first half

  11. 😀 The dansih commentators had me cracking up as they started speculating if its written into the players contracts that captains has special privileges and doesnt have to run back when under attack by the opposition.

I’ll take the positives that Sportiello has played great and Thiaw has also done a good job with Vlahovic. Musah will also miss the next game due to his yellow card so he at least wont be fielded as a right back against Genoa.

    1. Just like preseason teams that basically have nothing to play for. CL football is locked in (5 teams from Serie A) and they’re basicslly just playing for the extra cash that comes from league standings. A draw suits both.

      1. At least Juve should be pressing to win being behind Milan on the table and playing in front of their fans. But maybe Juve don’t know how to play better, thankfully though.

  12. Lol, RLC has made at least three recoveries chasing Juve players down. Are we sure he doesn’t actually belong in the double pivot?

  13. Strange thing about Pioli is that he won’t mind throwing you in the set right away the day you’ve joined but when people did think someone have been around for awhile and may deserve opportunities that’s the time this coach will act like that player is not even alive. I’m sure Terracciano, Okafor, Simic, Chuc are praying he’s gone ASAP.

  14. Adli is misplacing a lot of passes. And that run from RLC? Makes me wonder, maybe he indeed is a midfielder and not a supporting striker…

  15. Why the f did he sub of vlahovic? Mad max And we all knew adli was coming of but silly sub. Even tho its tijani who is invisible

    1. Yep. If we have to “sacrifice” Mike I’m not going to be too worried. Raveyre can then be promoted to no. 2.

      1. He had some good games for us when called upon so I’d also considering him if Mike is sold. And he’s a self proclaimed milanista.

  16. Chiesa is a boss. He’s got 1 year left on contract and doesn’t get along with Allegri. If Allegri stays Juve will sell. Sell Leao and get him.
