Official: Lecce leave Hjulmand out of friendly to discuss Sporting interest

By Euan Burns -

It is getting more and more likely that AC Milan will not be securing the signing of Morten Hjulmand this summer as he is in very close conversations with Sporting CP.

Lecce released an official statement on Saturday afternoon which explained that Hjulmand is not going to be in the squad for their friendly against Spanish side Cadiz.

This is because he has ‘requested and obtained’ permission to speak to Sporting about the contract that they are offering him.

Milan do not actually need to sign Hjulmand as things stand, but there is a very real chance that Rade Krunic will be moving to Fenerbache if the right bid comes in.

Should that move happen, Milan will need to sign yet another midfielder and Lecce’s Hjulmand may no longer be an option. Another linked name is Nicolas Dominguez from Bologna, although he has multiple admirers and will need to be acted on quickly.

  1. Another big missed opportunity as the player looks headed to Sporting. First Veliz and now Hjulmand?? Both attainable for reasonable amounts all within our per player budget (under 20M). Hjulmand would have been a perfect replacement over Krunic who wants to leave and is really a backup. And Veliz a perfect compliment to Giroud.

Now what Georgio? Keeping Columbo should not preclude us from signing another striker as Columbo is an average player and cannot lead the line if Giroud goes down and Okafor is not a true #9. Big risk…Still need a DM and Hjulmand looked like a perfect fit, a true DM. Let’s see what happens…..
