Official: Marcenaro will officiate Milan-Empoli – the precedents for both teams

By Oliver Fisher -

Matteo Marcenaro has been appointed as the referee for tonight’s game between AC Milan and Empoli at San Siro, it has been confirmed.

Milan will come into the game full of confidence having beaten the runaway league leaders Napoli 4-0 on Sunday, but Empoli ended their run of eight games without a win as they defeated Lecce to ease any fears of a slide towards the bottom three.

As our colleagues at SempreMilan.it report, the AIA have appointed Matteo Marcenaro as the referee for the Friday night match at San Siro with Mondin and De Meo as the linesmen. The fourth official will be Rapuano, while the VAR chief will be Valeri and his assistant Di Martino.

It will be the first ever time that Marcenaro has officiated a game involving the Rossoneri, but the Genoa-born referee instead took charge of two Empoli matches in the past, both in Serie A in 2022 and 2023, which ended in a draws against Hellas Verona and Torino.
