Official: Sampdoria vs. AC Milan starting XIs – some rotation but Giroud starts

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli has made three changes to the starting XI for AC Milan’s clash against Sampdoria tonight, compared to last time out. Due to injuries, Olivier Giroud will make his fifth consecutive start.

Divock Origi was supposed to start this game, being the fourth change to the XI, but he suffered from muscle fatigue yesterday. He was thus left out of the squad and Giroud is forced to make his fifth consecutive start.

Simon Kjaer, Tommaso Pobega and Junior Messias are the three changes and given the tight schedule, rotation is absolutely needed for the Rossoneri. It remains to be seen if any of them can impress on the pitch tonight.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Kalulu, Theo Hernandez; Tonali, Pobega; Messias, De Ketelaere, Leao; Giroud.

Bench: Mirante, Tătărușanu; Ballo-Touré, Dest, Gabbia, Thiaw, Tomori; Adli, Bakayoko, Bennacer, Díaz, Saelemaekers, Vranckx.

Official Sampdoria XI (4-3-1-2): Audero; Bereszyński, Ferrari, Murillo, Augello; Villar; Léris, Rincón, Sabiri, Đuričić; Caputo.

Bench: Ravaglia; Amione, Conti, Murru; Verre, Vieira, Yepes; Gabbiadini, Pussetto, Quagliarella.

  1. Good luck lads!

But worried about Giroud’s game time in what could be a tough game – going to a tough test for Pioli to manage this one!

    1. Think he’ll tell the lads to go out and get a couple goals in the opening half hour. Then maybe they can push CDK up to like a false 9, bring on Adli/Diaz and give Giroud the second half off.

  2. Giroud starts because there is no Belotti available…..
Hope Giroud’s body can stand the pressure of so many games in a short period of time…

  3. And of course not to mention another game for Theo….
What’s the point of keeping Balo- Toure , and not buying another player if we don’t count him for a backup?

  4. Flossonero, that’s exactly what I was thinking… take out Giroud and push CDK up.

Man, we really need Rebic and/or Origi to get back to full fitness otherwise Giroud is going to get worn out.

  5. What’s wrong with Pioli? Giroud, Theo and Leao shouldn’t be starting this game. Those 3 guys need rest.
We better blow away Samp in the 1st 45 otherwise, the minutes gonna pile up too fast.
I would have been open to starting CDK at CF and bring in Diaz at the 10

    1. These guys do need rest; BUT we need to win matches! I think if we went ahead 2-0 or 3-0 then Giroud would sit and CDK would move up to striker with Diaz at CAM; but we had a red card situation so we needed to play for the win.

There is NOTHING wrong with Pioli! We need to get WINS!

  6. Pioli& his stupidity again. Adli should have been or be the regular AM sub or stater in series A. If wanted to sub to a DM put a DM like he did in the 3rd sub. Also Dest for Calabria. You are AC Milan, respect your opponent but don’t fear or play defensive futbol.

    1. If Pioli is stupid then Milan wouldn’t win this match after down to 10 men and defense for more than 45 minutes.

And if Pioli is stupid, there’s no way Milan could win a scudetto or back to champions league again with a team full of young and inexperienced players.

So please don’t act like you know how to manage a real football team just because you plays video games.
