AC Milan might just have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of a new central midfielder as Samuele Ricci has extended his deal with Torino.
For many, the most pressing matter as we approach the January mercato seems to be a lack of midfield depth given that Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders have been working overtime basically all season.
Ismael Bennacer’s return will be a boost but guarantees are needed about the level he can perform at, while Yunus Musah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are both injured and not natural double pivot players.
Milan have been heavily linked with a move for Ricci as a result in the past few days. The reliable MilanNews even stated recently that the management are looking to bring forward a planned summer swoop, and that the player would be open to joining the Rossoneri in January.
As a result, Fonseca had to adapt Filippo Terracciano to play alongside Fofana in Verona, with zero alternatives. In the summer, an error of judgment was made regarding the number of midfielders in the squad and it was hoped that more help would come from Milan Futuro.
That idea seems to have gone out of the window now, because a statement on Torino’s official website reads as follows: “Torino Football Club is pleased to announce that it has renewed the contract for the sporting performances of the footballer Samuele Ricci until 30 June 2028.
“Ricci was born in Pontedera on 21 August 2001. Having grown up as a footballer in the Empoli youth sector, he made his professional debut with the Tuscans in the 2019/2020 season, in Serie B. After two seasons, with 62 appearances and 2 goals, he obtained promotion to Serie A.
“In the 2021-’22 season, in his first year in the top flight, he collected 21 appearances and one goal between August and January, before moving to Toro in the second part of the year.
“Having quickly become one of the strengths of the Granata team, he collected a total of 97 appearances and 4 goals at Torino, also earning a call-up to the Italian national team where he boasts 6 appearances overall.”
great now we wont get him 😉
Belotti 2.0
Cairo doing his thing I see.
We should go for Prati
A very dumb move from Ricci. No club with self-respect would try to get Ricci now, and he is average anyway.
Why? Maybe he just likes it there.
I’m really interested what kind of influence does Cairo have on his players. He is breaking the matrix. All potential big names in his club seem to risk their careers for the club, disregarding bigger salaries and opportunities from top clubs.
Probably extortion.
If you don’t sign I’ll not sell you and you’ll be benched until 2026 (Ricci old contract end).
If it works 🤷♂️
This is good for us I don’t think we need him now he isn’t the same player he was once lately he is more useless than quality morten frendrup is much more better right now
It is sad to say but Milan is not attractive anymore.
Well time will tell if he’d end up like belotti.
But it’s clearly a move from cairo saying “You want ricci? Better come with hefty offer then”.
It sucks from Milan perspective, but it’s a good move from Torino i have to say.
Let’s kiss goodbye to the idea of buying him then. Moncada will have to dust off his old notebooks and get someone from Ligue 1.
How does Ricci suddenly go from must have to “the next Belotti”? It’s hypocritical to criticize players who renew with the likes of Torino, saying they don’t have ambition or whatever, because now we “can’t get them cheap” and then expect our players who have contracts running down to renew, like Theo currently or Donnarumma in the past, so that we can sell them for max value. Kudos to Cairo for knowing how to protect his assets, unlike the dipsticks that run our club. If Ricci is really that good he will still move, just that now it will be for 50-60M to a club that can afford that. If we can’t afford that, move on to the next target and that’s that.
They probably aprove what dollarumma, kessie or calhanoglu did to us ,kudos to Ricci for treating his club as every captain should do
Moderate this m0r0ns
excellent. he saved us from the embarrassment that we would have experienced trying to get him for free, and in the end they would have definitely left him to Inter,Juve or Napoli because they would have given him 500k more salary as always
