Official: Milan vs. Bologna starting XIs – Rebic returns and Castillejo gets the nod

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has opted for no real surprises in his first line-up of the 2020-21 Serie A season.

The Rossoneri will be looking to build off Thursday night’s 2-0 win over Shamrock Rovers in the second qualifying round of the Europa League when they face off against Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side at San Siro, with kick-off set for 20:45 CEST.

Pioli will not be able to call upon defensive trio Alessio Romagnoli, Mateo Musacchio or Andrea Conti as all are injured, while Rafael Leao returned to Milanello on Monday having been in quarantine.

Ante Rebic does return from suspension though, and he will be one of the main supply lines for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, along with Hakan Calhanoglu and Samu Castillejo, who has fought off competition from Alexis Saelemaekers to get the nod.

Franck Kessie and Ismael Bennacer will anchor the midfield, while the back four protecting Gianluigi Donnarumma reads Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Matteo Gabbia and Theo Hernandez from right to left.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): G. Donnarumma; Calabria, Gabbia, Kjaer, Hernandez; Bennacer, Kessie; Castillejo, Calhanoglu, Rebic; Ibrahimovic.

Bench: A. Donnarumma, Tatarusanu, Duarte, Kalulu, Laxalt, Krunic, Paquetà, Tonali, Diaz, Saelemaekers, Colombo, Maldini.
