Official: Milan XI to face Trento – Chukwueze and Musah get first start

By Oliver Fisher -

After yesterday’s Silvio Berlusconi Trophy win against Monza at the U-Power Stadium, a rotated line-up are in action against Trento this evening.

Stefano Pioli has gone all-change from the game last night with Marco Sportiello in goal and a back four which features the veteran duo of Alessandro Florenzi and Simon Kjaer on the right side, with the Primavera pair Jan-Carlo Simic and Davide Bartesaghi on the other.

In midfield, Yunus Musah will get his first start since joining with Yacine Adli playing as the regista and Tommaso Pobega down as the left-sided mezzala.

The attacking trident sees Samuel Chukwueze on the right flank, Lorenzo Colombo as the centre-forward and Luka Romero playing on the left side.

The bench features some interesting names, such as young striker sensation Francesco Camarda and new signing Alex Jimenez.

Official Milan XI (4-3-3): Sportiello; Florenzi, Kjaer, Simic, Bartesaghi; Musah, Adli, Pobega; Chukwueze, Colombo, Romero.

Subs: Mirante, Nava; Nsiala, Jimenez, Paloschi; Eletu, Zeroli; Cuenca, Camarda.

      1. “He plays hard and knows the system” idk how anyone can defend that bum. You know damn well Pioli went to ownership crying when he saw the Fenerbache rumors.

    1. Musah never played as a regista. He was obviously brought to compete with the other mezzalas since they share the same characteristics. He’s a 20 year old with great potential but who lacks consistency, he’s not going to be a starter. And definitely not in a position he’s never played before.

        1. Tyler Adams plays the regista role for the US NT with Musah and Mckennie playing the mezzala roles.
Musah is a player who wants to go forward just like RLC and Reijnders

        2. He plays DM in a 4-2-3-1, not the same. They spent the same amount for Pulisic and a little less for Okafor to sit on the bench, so why not? Besides, it won’t be just sitting on the bench, it would be a rotation for all of them, they’ll get plenty on playing time. Our main issue was lack of depth. Now, they’ve addressed it.
Also, kind reminder that Bennacer is not dead, and Krunic is Pioli favourite. If he would have been brought for the regista position, he would be the third option (when Bennacer returns).

          1. He’s not sitting on the bench. I don’t think I made myself clear enough. They didn’t spend weeks trying to sign him and then spending the money they did for a rotation mid.

          2. If we have learned something from pioli through the years is that hes is not a master of substitutions or rotations. I will be interesting to see what he does.

The outcome will most likely be that he will stick with a starting 11, and do mindless subs i the 85th minut and clueless rotation.

I hope I am wrong though and he proves otherwise.

          3. @GalaliM fair point.
@Giancarlo in our title winning season we had Kessie, Bennacer and Tonali for 2 positions. They all played about the same amount of minutes while rotating between them. It worked out great. I expect the same now for the 2 mezzala positions. An ambitious club simply cannot afford to have the level of quality off the bench that we had last year.

          4. @A
            21/22 serie A Champs,
            minutes by midfielders
            Tonali- 2606
            Kessie-2309
            Brahim Diaz- 1871
            Saelemaekers – 1864
            Bennacer – 1520
            Krunic- 1412.
Many fans, I don’t know for what reason, like to put Bennacer on the same level of importance and productivity with Kessie and Tonali, where he in reality has been as important as Krunic and faaaar behind Kessie, Tonali and even Hakan the previous 2 seasons.
BTW the previous season 20/21 when Milan finished 2nd
            Kessie played 3230
            Hakan – 2627
            Tonali- 1335
            Brahim Diaz- 1228
            Saelemakers- 2031
            Bennacer- 1333
            Krunic -705

          5. @Z hmmm, ok. Can’t argue with that. Maybe what stuck with me (and others too) was the post lockdown period in 2020. He and Kessie were playing really well at the time, when we first switched to 4-2-3-1. After that, I guess injuries took their toll.

  1. Great coach Pioli should have played Luka on the right side of attack yesterday while saving pulisic on the left side today, but as usual, he prefers to play players on unfamiliar position and miraculously expecting a very great result, the first 2 friendlies had ulisic on the left and complementing pobega’s exploits and strength well, but he has changed it again

  2. luka sollte ausgeliehen werden für 1 jahr oder 2 wenn er zurückkommmt würde er erfahrener und grossartiger sein

  3. man könnte 3-5-2 spielen maignan tomori kjaer thiaw ; theo reijjnders musah chukwueze; leao/ pulisic; giroud/pulisic/leao okafor

doch pioli wird es nicht tun

  4. Since Pioli is trying to implement a 4-2-3-1 (4-2-1-3) off the ball, that morphs into a 4-3-3 on the ball, I would be interested to see which ones of those three MFs that fill in the AM role and DM role respectively. I have my eye on Adli, hope we can have a match where we can watch him.
