Official: Parma vs. AC Milan starting XIs – five changes from Torino game

AC Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca has made a number of changes to the starting XI that will face Parma this evening compared to the side that drew with Torino on the opening day.

It was always likely that Fonseca would make alterations from the line-up that he named a week ago given that new signings and internationals were back in the frame, and indeed there have been changes in every department.

Starting at the back, Mike Maignan has a back four in front of him consisting of Davide Calabria, Fikayo Tomori and the brand new left side of Strahinja Pavlovic and Theo Hernandez.

The midfield double pivot has been overhauled too, with Tijjani Reijnders partnering Yunus Musah in the engine room and Ruben Loftus-Cheek playing in a more advanced role like he did last season.

Christian Pulisic is the right winger which means that Samuel Chukwueze drops to the bench, with Rafael Leao on the other flank and Noah Okafor leading the line as the centre-forward.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez; Reijnders, Musah; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao, Okafor.

Bench: Torriani, Raveyre, Emerson, Gabbia, Thiaw, Terracciano, Bennacer, Fofana, Chukwueze, Saelemaekers, Jovic.

Official Parma XI (4-2-3-1): Suzuki; Coulibaly, Balogh, Circati, Valeri; Estévez, Sohm; Man, Bernabé, Mihăilă; Bonny.

Bench: Chichizola, Corvi; Del Prato; Camara, Cyprien, Hainaut; Almqvist, Cancellieri, Haj, Kowalski, Mikołajewski.

  1. How about you wait an extra minute before you publish the article and make sure you actually get it right?
It’s the second time in a row that the official lineup shown in the article does not match the reality, or what you yourself wrote just above it, for that matter.

  2. Hopefully we can keep a clean sheet today.
    2-0 win for us.
On a side note I’m glad that Fonseca is sticking to the idea of fielding Pulisic in the cam role.

    1. Just realized that Chukwueze is both in the sarting XI and on the bench who knows if Pulisic will play in the Cam role 🙁

        1. Hopefully its just for tactical reasons for todays match and not a permanent decision as we will be more able to utilize our attackers if he is fielded centrally.

I think Musah has potential but he seems to blow both hot and cold.

To be fair I don’t mind Jovic but lets see if Okafor can do a better job from the start.

  3. 3-1 Milan

Goals for Leao, RLC and Reinjders
Assists from Puli, Leao and Reinjders

We give one up in a mix up on the high line but the defense looks clearly improved otherwise

    Forza Milan!

  4. I was so excited for a Leao Pulisic Okafor Chuck front 4 last summer and we’ve still never seen it. I don’t think we ever will. Pleased Okafor is starting though

  5. Yeah this article is wrong.

MILAN (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Pavlovic, Theo; Reijnders, Musah; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leao; Okafor

Come on guys. You need better editing.

  6. It’s a shame it’s still Calabria and i’m not a fan of Musah, and some other issues, but much better than the 1st game.

        1. Yeah its shocking and we has pretty much been dominated for half the minutes played by a recently promoted team but at least we started to play somewhat better later on.
We better soon find our groove or this season will be a very long one.

  7. Right out of the blocks RLC has the ball in a Good position, fails to see Pulisics run in behind, loses the ball, and Parma go on to score. Brilliant. This coach won’t last through September.

    1. Agree, it’s bad. It’s really bad when you go one game and change formation this drastically. When we’re like this we’re a man or two down with rlc and others for 99% of the match until rlc randomly scores a goal. Oh and yea let’s keep playing this high line as Parma pick us apart.

  8. What a cringe show so far. No defensive mid coverage whatsoever. Defense is out to sea and nowhere near where it needs to be.

Pavlovic looks like the real thing. Thiaw would have conceded a Pk and a penalty on that play Pavlo saved …

  9. What the heck was that? Calabria and theo on that Goal both sleeping and the defence has been awful as well as the attack. We still have no creativity and tactics just like pioli but somehow it looks even worse.

I actually can’t believe how bad we’re playing what is this team? On paper they look scary and on the pitch they don’t Know what to do. The midfield more than ever is brutal. Keep this up fonseca you won’t last five games

    1. This is our problem, we build from the back but can’t connect with the midfield. So far, we are only going through the flanks. Noah has barely got his foot on the ball. This is why I don’t blame Jovic for his last game performance.

      1. I’ve talked about the lack of service to Jovic in the last match when many were stoning him. Even Halaan cannot do a thing without services.

  10. Midfield is completely disjointed, Calabria and Theo at RB and LB sucking big time. They are leaving Tomori and Pavlovic out to dry. WOW, this is so bad.

  11. Chill guys. Theo was lazy in that goal and it still came from Calabria’s area so calabria knows what he saw when he asked for Emerson. You can tell that Pioli’s style is still alive in these players. This is no fault of Fonseca. It’s hard to implement a new style of play into players that were with a coach for almost 5 yrs. Give him time. It’s gonna take a lil while. Patience is the key at this point.

  12. Crappy menagment and crappy team. Menagment should have invested in targeted areas not just find a discount somewhere for any player. By the way, they haven’t sold any player so far, all loaners. No identity in this team. Bunch of average players with same characteristics. No real am and dm among our 50 midfielders.

  13. I wonder when people will address the elephant in the room. Is Ibra qualified for the role? Or is he just a money-hungry egotistical ___ who’s sucking on Cardinale’s jockstrap?

The starting line up shows pressure on the coach. Musah and RLC in the midfield instead of Bennacer makes no sense.

    1. He is inexperienced. Cardinale has spent the money so far, has done his part. That hasn’t been the issue. He should have just hired experienced managets.

  14. I just don’t understand this system. If a rB goes forward the LB can’t, that’s never changed in football and never will. If you send everyone forward but 2 players, you’ll be scored on If you make ANY mistake. Don’t see how this system is sustainable over an entire season

    1. Also, where is Chuck, is he injured? It’s the 80th minute and RLC is still on the field
You don’t want to give Chuck 10 minutes for a 1v1?

    1. At this point, why not bench leao and play a Xmas tree with puli and reijnders as CAM. Screw it, no idea is a bad idea at this point. Also, RLC still on the pitch lol, it’s a joke.

  15. That was truly awful from Milan. Fonseca will have a lot of things to fix and soon. Basic problems from Pioli era. Basic Counterattacks that slice us open.

The only bright aspect was Pavlo and Reijnders. Everyone else very sub par.

  16. My biggest problem from Fonseca in this game was the obvious starting lineup with Musah in it just cos the game was being broadcast in the US. The other one is the fact RLC played the entire game. My god!!!
Idc what anyone says, we need bennacer. They better not sell him. There was no creativity with RLC and Musah in the game.
Ibrahimovic experience needs to be questioned too. There’s no way we had more qualified coaches available and he went for the obedient one.
I’m not giving up on Fonseca yet tho he needs time. We will see how it goes.

  17. we played even worse than vs torino smh! awful defending again by calabria and then emerson, why did we buy him in the first place? waste of money! musah with his bad passes and overly aggressive approach, and RLC is not a playmaker damnit!
