Official: Red Bull Salzburg vs. AC Milan starting XIs – one change from Inter win

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli has made just one change to the starting line-up that will kick-off the Champions League campaign against Red Bull Salzburg compared to the team that beat Inter.

Pioli has chosen the usual defensive department consisting of Mike Maignan in between the posts with Davide Calabria, Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori and Theo Hernandez ahead of him.

Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer have been chosen in the double pivot again with Charles De Ketelaere ahead of them as the central attacking midfielder.

Alexis Saelemaekers is the only change from the team that triumphed in Saturday’s derby as he comes in for Junior Messias on the right. Rafael Leao occupies the left flank and Olivier Giroud will be up front to complete the attack.

Official Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Theo Hernandez; Bennacer, Tonali; Saelemaekers, De Ketelaere, Leao; Giroud.

Bench: Mirante, Jungdal, Ballo-Touré, Dest, Kjaer, Gabbia, Pobega, Messias, Brahim Diaz, Origi.

Official Salzburg XI (4-3-1-2): Kohn; Dedić, Solet, Pavlovic, Ulmer; Capaldo, Seiwald, Kjaergaard; Kameri; Okafor, Fernando.

Bench: Mantl, Walke, Van Der Brempt, Baidoo, Adamu, Simic, Diarra, Gourna-Douath, Sesko, Bernardo.

  1. We have to thank Pioli for giving us either Saelemaekers or Diaz, not both at the same time, as last season. Having just one drastically reduces the probability of us having a mental breakdown.
