AC Milan managed to get a late deal over the line for Riccardo Sottil with Fiorentina, it has been confirmed, and he will join on loan with an option to buy.
It came as a bit of a shock yesterday when Matteo Moretto announced that Milan and Fiorentina have reached an agreement for Sottil over a paid loan with an option to buy set at around €10m.
Things went somewhat quiet after that initial breaking news, but then with less than a couple of hours of the window remaining things accelerated again towards a conclusion.
Fabrizio Romano gave the operation the ‘here we go’, adding that the deal in place is a €1m loan fee plus €10m option to buy. Sottil will be part of the homegrown squad list, and has five goals across all competitions so far this season.
A statement on Milan’s official website reads as follows: “AC Milan is pleased to announce the signing of Riccardo Sottil from ACF Fiorentina on a loan deal, with an option to make the move permanent.
“Born in Turin on 3 June 1999, Sottil progressed through the youth academies of Genoa, Torino and Fiorentina, making his professional debut for Fiorentina in September 2018.
“Over the course of his career, he has also played for Pescara and Cagliari before returning to Fiorentina, where he made a total of 138 appearances and scored 15 goals. Sottil will wear the number 99 shirt.”
What does this mean for Chukwu? Was he not sent to the EPL last night?
No. Unfortunately, Chuckwueze is still at Milan, but he will be moved on in the summer.
That’s a shame. I hope Milan can recoup their investment in him this summer. Unfortunately, Milan is in a pickle. The best thing for the team’s performance is if Chuckwu rides the bench almost the entire remainder of the season. But if he does that, it will be very hard to recoup their investment in him in the summer.
The Turkish window is still open, I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least links with the big clubs today
That’s good news. Let us hope!
Would rather avoid dealing with Turkish clubs. Knowing that they’re the last resort, they’d only go (even) low balling us. Or offering loan with option to buy with complex formulas.
How about Joao Felix? Until now, the announcement is still missing, including at the official Milan website. Something wrong with medical?
It’s concerning that they may have run out of time
No issues with Joao Felix.
“00:20 – Nonostante non ci sia ancora il comunicato ufficiale, il contratto di Joao Felix è stato depositato in Lega in quanto il giocatore risulta ufficialmente tesserato con il Milan.” – Milannews
Translation: His contract was deposited with the League. it was signed and done.
It is a strange one, I believe they’re waiting for international clearance (obviously not needed for Bondo or Sottil).
He’s in
There’s no problem. It’s more towards marketing and content creation matters.
What the heck! Worst signing in this window. But FORZA MILAN
Bought to wake up Leao I suspect – good addition
Yes, Sotill with 1 goal in 20 games will wake him up.
He was brought in to replace Okafor, or better said to be a backup for wing positions.
*Until I wrote this comment. Hopefully just a delay on announcement
I think this is good business.
Swaps Okafor for an equivalent player who will instead occupy a national trained list place.
He should also be more suited to the new coaches tactics/formations.
Win win
Chukwueze could still leave to any mercato still open, including Turkey.
As far as Sottil, not the first player I thought of, but he’s pretty dynamic and low risk. If he doesn’t work out, it’s not like we spent a lot and don’t need to redeem. But I hope he does work.
Sottil will fill the Italian home grown need. Moreover, it’s only a loan with option to buy. So it’s a low risk kind of move. Let’s hope he’ll be a decent back up.
Ok, might be a good backup for 10M. 1 goal and 1 assist in half a season don’t really look promising but yeah, Okafor replacement.
