Official: Roma confirm Vergine exit – move to Milan now imminent

By Oliver Fisher -

It seems as though AC Milan have got their man as AS Roma have confirmed that Vincenzo Vergine has left his role there by mutual consent.

A statement on Roma’s official website confirms that Vergine’s contract with the club has been mutually terminated. He had been in charge of the Giallorossi’s youth set up since June 2021.

Tiago Pinto paid tribute to his impressive work with the Giallorossi, stating: “On behalf of the club I’d like to thank Vincenzo for the passion and commitment that he’s shown during his time at Roma.

“Over the course of Vincenzo’s tenure we’ve shared ideas and implemented projects aimed at growing the club’s youth teams. I wish him all the best for the next endeavour in his career.”

Vergine thanked Roma for the opportunities he was given by them, adding: “I’d like to thank the Friedkin family and director Tiago Pinto for the opportunity given to me over these seasons.

“I consider it a privilege to have been part of the Giallorossi family and to have been able to offer my contribution to a youth setup which boasts a glorious history.

“AS Roma and all the people who stood by me during my time here will always have a place in my heart.”

Multiple sources are reporting that it is Milan who will welcome the impressive Vergine as the new head of their youth sector. With Roma, he achieved three titles in a single season in 2022 with the Coppa Italia Primavera and in the U17 and U16 titles, a record for the club.

The Rossoneri made the decision not to renew the contract of Angelo Carbone. Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio had different ideas and it seems that they have convinced Vergine to make the switch – a man with a very encouraging body of work.
