Official: Salernitana vs. AC Milan starting XIs – Bennacer back from start

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Salernitana at Stadio Arechi this evening and Stefano Pioli has named his starting XI for the clash. As expected, Ismael Bennacer will make his first start since recovering from the serious knee injury.

Milan will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the league after beating Monza last time out. And with Christmas celebrations coming up, it would be good to clinch all three points against Salernitana this evening.

Stefano Pioli has decided to make two changes to the XI, reverting to a 4-3-3 formation as well after fielding a three-man backline against Monza. Bennacer will make his first start since the comeback and Davide Calabria is back from suspension.

Official Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Kjær, Hernández; Loftus-Cheek, Bennacer, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leão.

Bench: Mirante, Nava; Bartesaghi, Florenzi, Jiménez, Nsiala, Simić; Adli, Krunić, Romero, Zeroli; Chukwueze, Jović.

Official Salernitana XI (4-3-2-1): Costil; Mazzocchi, Fazio, Pirola, Bradarić; Coulibaly, Bohinen, Łęgowski; Candreva, Dia; Tchaouna.

Bench: Fiorillo, Salvati; Bronn, Daniliuc, Gyömbér, Lovato, Sambia; Kastanos, Martegani; Botheim, Cabral, Ikwuemesi, Simy. Coach: F. Inzaghi.

Given that Salernitana are at the bottom of the league standings, Milan are the clear favourites for this game. Of course, the Rossoneri cannot afford to underestimate their opponents, especially not in front of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

  1. Simic scored at his debut. His confidence is currently high, but as usual Pioli likes to break players momentum. It only shows Pioli has little faith in him. Pioli sees young player only as emergency subs..

      1. No worries bro!
Happened to me the other day. I think they have an issue with it you’re making a comment and identify which one is in queue first. They seem to not have a ticket counter in the back end so ppls comments ends up as replies on other people’s posts but it’s likely due to “who gets there first” and then adds the subsequent comment as a reply instead of a separate comment

    1. Yes but kjaer has also to get back in form since he hasnt played much recently. Simic time will come but currently we need points and it’s smarter to use a line up with experience. If Milan is leading than other players can come in.

      1. Theres one more half and i do actually think we played the best for the majority of the first half. Salernitana had that great chance that seemed to be deflected from a milan players shoulder and then the goal besides of that milan hass been the dominant team we just lack some more goals from us 🙂 when that is said i was getting a bit nervous towards the end of the first half though but we can still win 3-1 or something.

  2. What a cowardly and backward thinking lineup.
We are playing the worst team in the league ffs!!!

Jovic finally found form when we desperately need a striker and it’s weeks until January window. Surely we need to try these guys out

Simic , we need defenders, you know what the easiest cheapest option is? Playing our own f7cking youth players!!!!

    Not to mention the others.

It’s just sad and stupid given the issues we have right now

    1. 100% agree with you. Pioli remains our biggest problem but everytime he manages to win a game, most fans forget how terrible this guy is. He lacks ideas and can’t even trust our young guys to deliver. Even a 10yr old coaching this team can see how important it is to give simic another chance in a game like this but Pioli is clueless af. Jovic should have also started this game but no, Pioli trusts his 37 yr old that doesn’t offer anything but height. We’re doomed if we continue with this guy. I’ve been saying this for 3 seasons now. All we do is pass backwards and a high ball hoping for Giroud to head it. And that’s why CDK, and others didn’t do well in this nonsense Tactics. That’s why we get destroyed in Europe. Pioli’s tactics is not for a winning team.

  3. What a listless and toothless performance. Milan barely testing their keeper and Salernitana have had some good chances.
This is exactly why its good to give youth a chance, they are hungry and would play like their life depended on it.
Instead we have the usual overworked players who look like they are stuck in 1st gear.

Pioli thinjs its a good idea to debut Pellegrino in Naples, ffs. This is the game to blood young talent before the emergency arrives (and it will).

So far a very disappointing game compared to Monza

  4. Kjaer is terrible; Giroud is terrible -but let’s let’s keep playing these old duffers just in case the ball hits them and goes in the net

  5. It’s always a painful pleasure to see Milan been mired in the mud by a worst team and most painfully by a clueless manager and management! However, I, boldly a pro-maldini fan couldn’t be more delighted to see this scam of a coach been taught what a good manager does to a team.

    1. Another dumb comment. Not sure what Maldini has anything to do with this game. But if we want to go down this road, look at last year’s table without Juventus’ penalty.

      1. Let’s go even further down this road and compare the points from last season. They’re already trailing behind and that’s after spending 130 millions. What a revolution!

    1. After a win against what is basically a small club, most fans tend to forget that the team has not played well all season. And everything is not yet alright.

They keep getting carried away by a small victory forgetting the fundamental issues that still lay within the club.
