Official: Sandro Schärer will officiate Milan’s encounter with Tottenham

By Isak Möller -

UEFA have announced the designation of the referees for the Champions League Round of 16. The Swiss international Sandro Schärer has been chosen for AC Milan’s game against Tottenham on Tuesday.

At the age of 34, Schärer has been able to amass a decent amount of games and experience. However, it should be noted that he has officiated a total of just nine Champions League games in his career.

It will be his first time officiating an AC Milan as well as Tottenham game and it will be interesting to see how he will cope underneath the floodlights at San Siro. Earlier this season, he officiated Inter’s clash away at Viktoria Plzen and Italian media deemed him as ‘too lenient’.

Milan will head into the game with some confidence after bouncing back with a win against Torino last time out. However, it will be a tough clash against Tottenham and even a draw would be considered a good result.

  1. We don’t need a draw, we need a win at San sero, England will be tough for us. We have to capitalize on home advantage and our curva sure.
