Official: Sheffield Wednesday confirm termination of Devis Vasquez’s loan

Sheffield Wednesday has confirmed that Devis Vasquez has returned to AC Milan as his loan spell at the club has been cut short.

On their official website, Milan confirmed in August that the Colombian international had joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan with the aim of getting consistent playing time at the Championship side.

However, Sheffield Wednesday have now confirmed that Vasquez’s loan spell at Hillsborough has ended with the goalkeeper returning to his parent club. He only featured in 10 games for the Owls, but did win a penalty shootout for them in the cup.

Vasquez was the only signing of the 2023 January transfer window for Milan and few knew what to expect of a player signed from Guaraní in the Paraguayan first division.

The Rossoneri made the investment after Mike Maignan’s injury and he took the only non-EU slot available in the squad, which in turn meant there would be two available for the 2023 summer window as we explained in a feature.

Vasquez has not made his debut with the first team and his Rossoneri experience so far includes only two appearances with Ignazio Abate’s Primavera in the final days of last season. On 12 May he made his debut in the derby against Inter which ended 2-2.
