Official: Tatarusanu replaces Maignan in Milan’s Champions League squad

By Isak Möller -

Ciprian Tatarusanu has officially replaced Mike Maignan in AC Milan’s Champions League squad as the Frenchman has sustained a serious injury. However, that isn’t the end for him in the group stage.

Milan initially had Maignan and Antonio Mirante on List A for the Champions League, but the former’s injury has changed things. Thanks to UEFA rules, the Rossoneri were able to replace him with Ciprian Tatarusanu.

Rules require clubs to have two goalkeepers on List A and if one of the goalkeepers gets seriously injured (at least 30 days recovery), he can be replaced. Milan have made use of this, including Tatarusanu on the list as confirmed by ANSA.

Once 30 days have passed, if Maignan has recovered, then he will be able to return to the squad (which also means Tatarusanu will be excluded again). Mirante will remain regardless as he’s Italian-raised (which Milan need to keep the same amount of callups).
