Official: AC Milan vs. Inter starting XIs – six changes from Celtic draw

AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has named his second starting line-up of preseason, and there are a few notable changes.

Milan made their preseason debut the weekend before last as they drew 2-2 with Scottish champions Celtic in Glasgow. There were some encouraging and worrying signs from the game, with the second half performance engineering a comeback.

Now the preparations ramp up a bit, as the squad have been out in Australia for a few days. They have been gearing up to face city rivals Inter, in the first preseason derby since 2016, when Philippe Mexes won it with a volley that was out of this world.

Given that a few more of the World Cup participants have rejoined the squad since that Celtic game, there are naturally some changes to the side as Amorim can call upon a stronger group.

Lorenzo Torriani keeps his spot in goal, with last season’s first choice defence of Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic chosen. As a reminder, Mario Gila will sit out as he continues to recover from a minor muscle strain.

The wing-backs will be Samuel Chukwueze and Davide Bartesaghi, flanking a midfield double pivot of Youssouf Fofana and Yunus Musah. Barring Bartesaghi, it is the same trio that started in the midfield line for the second half in Scotland.

The big news comes in attack: Ruben Loftus-Cheek will once again be given a chance to impress in the attacking midfielder role and he is joined by Alphadjo Cisse, operating behind Francesco Camarda who got a brace vs. Celtic.

On the bench there are several youngsters who will hope for an opportunity. However, Milan will be without Mario Gila, Samuele Ricci, Zachary Athekame, David Odogu, Andrej Kostic, Lorenzo Ossola, Aurelien Guernier and Emanuele Borsani due to physical problems.

Official Milan XI (3-4-2-1): Torriani; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic; Chukwueze, Musah, Fofana, Bartesaghi; Loftus-Cheek, Cisse; Camarda.

Bench: Pittarella, Bouyer, Estupinan, De Winter, Ramos, Leao, Diawara, Modric, Nkunku, Comotto, Jashari, Vladimirov, F. Terracciano, Saelemaekers.

Official Inter XI (3-5-2): Martinez; Pavard, Bisseck, Bastoni; Diouf, Barella, Stankovic, Zielinski, Dimarco; Esposito, Idrissou.

Bench: Provedel, Farronato, Di Gennaro, Sucic, Luis Henrique, Bonny, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Mhkitaryan, Carlos Augusto, Bovio, Mosconi, Lavelli, Marello, Maye, Topalovic.

  1. Did you read the article before you published it? You have many misstakes between the lineups summaries and the names you mention in the article that are in the lineups. For example, in the article you say there are Kostic, Odogu,… and many more to be on the bench, but in the lineup summary they are missing :/
