AC Milan have confirmed that Zachary Athekame has joined Olympique Lyonnais, also known as Lyon, on a loan deal until the end of the 2026-27 season.
At the end of last week, RMC Sport broke the news of Athekame’s imminent loan move to Lyon, and the deal has now been confirmed. Considering that the Swiss international probably wouldn’t have got that much playing time this season, it’s a move that makes a lot of sense.

Ruben Amorim values both Alexis Saelemaekers and Samuel Chukwueze above him for the wing-back role. Furthermore, he could do with a season of consistent playing to develop and improve his quality, which was up and down last season.
Athekame to Lyon: Official statement
On their official website, AC Milan published a statement confirming the loan move earlier this evening. Lyon did the same, of course, and they even opted for a Spiderman theme with their announcement.
“AC Milan can confirm that Zachary Athekame has joined Olympique Lyonnais on loan. The club would like to wish Zachary all the best for the remainder of the season,” the statement read.
As a reminder, since this is a dry loan, there is no option to buy included. Lyon could always open talks with Milan next summer if they want to keep him, but there is no set option to do so.
