O Jogo: Sporting continue to ask for €45m from Lille and Leao – the latest

By Isak Möller -

The Rafael Leao renewal is a complicated situation. While both AC Milan and the player want to continue together, the renewal has been held up by the Sporting fine. And the Portuguese side still want the amount to increase.

Leao terminated his contract with Sporting back in 2018 after the fans attacked the training ground. The manner in which the winger left has since been deemed incorrect by  CAS and a fine was set at €16.5m (now at just over €20m with interest).

Lille and Leao are both on the hook for the payment and a few days ago, Record reported that Lille were ready to assume the full payment. As stated by O Jogo (via Calciomercato.com), though, Sporting won’t give up that easily.

In fact, the Portuguese side still want the amount to be set at €45m, which was the value of Leao’s release clause. They are waiting on a final response from FIFA but their demand has been rejected before. Still, it’s an inconvenience that continues to haunt Leao.

  1. I think the most reasonable thing is Leao wont renewal his contract with milan or terminate his contract earlier with mutual consent. Next summer, milan can re sign him for free.

    1. That i can pretty much guarantee wont happen because we would put ourselves in a very vulnable situation and potentially losing out on a great deal of money this coming summer.
