GdS: Okafor heading for RB Leipzig – Milan begin hunt for replacement

Noah Okafor’s time in Italy has not gone how AC Milan would have hoped, and a move away is looking likely, so the Rossoneri are beginning to look for a replacement.

It was never going to be a case of Okafor being a starter for Milan instantly, and for a while, the role was suiting everyone. The Swissman was providing occasionally from the bench and could help when needed. However, this stopped being the case.

By all accounts, it seems the winger will depart in January, if not the summer, and with reports suggesting that contact with RB Leipzig is progressing, the Diavolo will need some reinforcement.

As Calciomercato.com reports, the German outfit are ‘swooping’ for the winger, and it is assumed that another winger would arrive unless Sergio Conceicao decides differently. The forward is valued at €11 million, which would provide a small boost to the transfer kitty.

At present, Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco, Jamie Leweling from Stuttgart and Pepe from Porto are being considered. Sporting winger Francisco Trincao could be an option, with Jorge Mendes’ involvement expected, but Marcus Rashford currently is the leading option, and if Manchester United lower their demands a move could be possible in the mid-season mercato.

  1. If we are only getting 11m for him then keep him at least until summer.

We will only get rubbish for that money.

Okafor is a good player, he just needs a good run of fitness/form, better than Chucky by a long shot!

    1. Jiminez (19) will assume the Right Back role ahead of Royale, once Calabria is gone. Royale (skillset) is fine as a backup but overpaid!! Rashford, wouldn’t want to come here to be on the bench behind Leao, so I’m assuming he will challenge Morata and Tammy for the #9 role? looks like we’ll be going to a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2? right away a health RLC fits into the formation better, but still need a backup for Fofana, poor guy is being played to the bone!!

      1. theres a chance is that leao is actually leaving. thats why they after rashford i think. which is a fool if they sell him. without him there will be no super coppa

    2. I’m hoping the lightbulb will go off in Conceicao’s head and that he’ll play Jimenez at RB. Jimenez himself has said that he prefers playing on the right flank. Enough with playing players out of position. Jimenez could become the Theo of the right flank. If Okafor leaves lets get a proper winger to replace him not a converted player.

      1. Yeah it’s not like we should show any loyalty to our longest serving player who also happens to have been our best RB in about 15 years.

        1. Says the guy who wants to play Tomori over Gabbia. 15 years ago our RBs were Abate, Zambrotta and Oddo, all better than Calabria even with the latter two being 33 and 34, respectively. 10 years ago our RBs were Abate and De Sciglio, both better than Calabria. Abate has 22 Italy caps and De Sciglio has 40. Calabria has 7, with his last call up being in 2022…

  2. Berardi: experienced, cheap, reliable, good for squad lists, great option off the bench, no need to acclimatise or get used to new country or league….seems a no brainer to me ?? If in doubt loan with option to buy ??

    1. I’m completely aligned, but that would give us three RW’s? Christian, Chuk and Berardi, can any of them back up Leao other then Pulisic? I don’t think Jiminez is the solution for the remainder of the season?

  3. If we play 4-4-2 then Okafor should stay at least until the summer. He is ok back up for a SS. Him and Jovic scored a lot under Pioli paired up front.

  4. Is this why so many Rashford loan links?

I can’t see it myself, his wages are too high. But perhaps the management has some ideas, maybe Conceicao requested a certain replacement?

  5. He’s had too many injuries. He had flashes of brilliance, but fitness problems were a constant worry. I had more hopes for him, but it’s probably best for both sides he depart.

Rashford is useless though. Dude has had two great seasons out of 10.

    1. I agree with you didn’t want him, but UK press are reporting that Rashford to Milan is practically a done deal.

I’m surprised we would take him as he’s overpriced and overrated but maybe our algorithm sees something that my simple brain cannot

    2. Yeah right, Okafor has flashes of briliance but Rashford is useless. It is like saying rust looks better than gold. Be serious, Rashford is a player on the level of Leao, at least technically. He also has the same problem, he is not focusing only on football. If he did that he would be a bargain for Milan. Still, getting him on a dry loan is useless.
