Another journalist has claimed that Sandro Tonali harbours dreams of returning to AC Milan, and that he has told friends about it.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport recall, Zlatan Ibrahimovic explained Tonali’s time at Milan well in ‘Adrenalina’, stating: “The first year, Sandro was trapped in a dream. He looked around and said to himself: ‘This is the team I dreamed of as a child…’ This year he entered real life. Now he repeats: ‘I’m a Milan player’ and he plays. He’s a panzer in the middle of it.”

Tonali won the Scudetto in 2021-22, scoring some big goals to contribute too, and he seemed destined for 10 years with the Rossoneri. There was talk of him being a future captain and even a bandiera, due to his charisma and deep love for the colours.
Instead he flew to the Premier League. Milan needed Newcastle’s €64m, but Tonali wasn’t averse to a €7m net salary either. In the last couple of days, though, the midfielder’s words about his future with the Magpies has sparked intrigue.
‘He’d come back in a hurry
Luigi Garlando goes on to say in the article: “Okay, Prince Sandro, a prisoner in the tower of the New Castle, isn’t very credible given his earnings, but his friends blurt out that he’d come back in a hurry and that the old love has never faded.”
Can Milan, who were forced to sell Tijjani Reijnders and are without Champions League revenue, afford him? That’s another issue. Instead, it is more romantic to imagine Nicolò Barella and Tonali walking toward the centre of the pitch in a new stadium before the derby.
They would be like Sandro Mazzola and Gianni Rivera in the old Meazza, back in the 1960s. Two pillars of the Azzurri, ready to do battle for their boyhood clubs. It doesn’t hurt to dream.
Yeah if Milan had the money but unfortunately we need to sell our whole squad to buy you so sorry but ey when your contract expires we know where Sandro is coming

“I play very good football now, so I think everything is perfect now. I don’t want to change anything for my life because everything is 100 per cent; everything is very well now and I think this is perfect for me and for my family.”
Does that sound like someone who would rush back to Italy 🤔
I’m fairly confident to say that he wont join us in the next couple of years but maybe in 3-4 years it might be more feasible. I assume you are a Newcastle fan so let me ask you this would you rather play for the club you support and revere and maybe has done so since childhood or some random club that pays you more ? Tonali has supported AC Milan since his childhood so the answer most likely lies there. He will most likely come back to AC Milan when he is 28-29-30 years old. A different matter that might fasten up that process could be if Newcastle doesn’t qualify for CL for several seasons.

In a few years, it is likely that he will re-join Milan, as of course, I would want to play for the team I supported all my life / career. From a Newcastle fans perspective, what is irritating, and happens constantly, is the totally made up ‘news’ saying ‘he’d come back in a hurry’ rubbish…not even 24 hours after he stated the above via NUFC Official press sources.
All the best players want to play in the UCL as it’s the best competition in the world so if either of our clubs fall out of that then it may have implications for both teams.
I don’t have any bad feelings towards your club, your fans or players… we’ve enjoyed some great matches recently but dislike fake news which can potentially unsettle players (e.g. Isak!)
Thanks and no worries. Well I will argue that most football news is of standards of tabloid news papers like News of the world and over 90% of it should be taken with a grain of salt so I can certainly easily understand your perspective.
Sure but I nevertheless also think a player who is a fan of a specific club probably will be more open to a sacrifice for said club regardless of CL qualification.
Neither do I have any bad feelings towards Newcastle utd. even though I was pretty livid when AC Milan sold him to you guys. One of my childhood friends was a huge Newcastle utd. fan in the 1990ies and even though you didn’t win anything you really had some great players in Shearer, Asprilla, Ferdinand, Ginola, Gillespie and Beardsley amongst others. Quite the team back then and would have liked you to have won the EPL that year you ended up 2nd.
In the end I think Newcastle will only have to worry about a potential Milan interest as I have a very difficult time seeing him join Juventus or Inter as that would simply break my heart to see him end up there.
Yes, agree most ‘news’ is written just for clicks to get advertising revenue but some are just so pathetically made up it’s ridiculous and can unsettle a team not just the player.
Again that’s very true, Shearer came to us knowing that he could have won numerous titles and played in Europe consistently with Man Utd but wanted to play for the team he supported all his life which is identical to Tonali and AC Milan.
I can sympathise regarding the sale to us as the Premier League prize money is obscene compared to other top leagues and I don’t see this changing any time soon unfortunately. There’s an argument that the EPL is the best league, which is a draw to players, but if the players heart is elsewhere then it’s hard to turn those feelings off.

To be honest, I can’t see us selling him to another Italian team as I’m sure we’d take his thoughts into consideration over an extra million or two!

Absolutely I’m not a fan of clickbait either and it also irritates me with speculations in regard of Milans players.
Now you mention it I do actually recall that Shearer had a great offer from utd. but refused it as he wanted to play for Newcastle and also had promised Keegan that he would join your team. that shows character in my view. I would personally have loved to see him in Milan back then, same goes for Ginola and Asprilla even if his heighdays was in Parma.
Yeah I agree, there is something wrong in modern day football as it simply cant be right that teams getting promototed to the EPL or even relegated from the league earns more money than the top Serie A teams. That needs to be fixed otherwise the ffp is just a sham keeping things in status quo in favor of the EPL.

Everything is indeed possible and who knows if he would join those teams but at this point I highly doubt he would entertain those 2 options but obviously it’s always a possibility but yes I also consider him a top player and i even wanted him to join us several years before he did and I always thought he would stay with us for the remainder of his career. I do nevertheless appreciate the love he has been shown by the Newcastle fans even after his ban and thought it was a very emotional return he got with you guys.
