AC Milan have found themselves in a situation before the end of November where the only objective to fight for is the Champions League, a report claims.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport writes this morning, Paulo Fonseca reiterated after the 0-0 draw against Juventus that he continues to believe in Milan’s chances of winning the Scudetto, but the table tells a different story.
The Rossoneri have a game in hand to play against Bologna, but a double-digit gap (10 points) from league-leaders Napoli and a nine-point gap to fourth (and fifth) means that Inter, Atalanta, Fiorentina and Lazio are running away.
This is why from now on at Milanello practicality and realism will take the place of dreams. The diktat is to think about one game at a time and therefore focus only on the away match against Slovan Bratislava.
A win could allow Milan – who started their European campaign with defeats against Liverpool and Leverkusen – to target direct qualification for the last 16 with a top eight finish. The calendar helps too, with games against Red Star (home), Girona (home) and Dinamo Zagreb (away) to follow.
Getting directly to the last 16 would allow the Rossoneri to collect over €20m from UEFA (the money from four victories and the €11m from getting to the knockouts) plus the box office revenues and the market pool.
For the club, it would also mean redeeming the fact they didn’t get there last season. For the squad, it would mean two less games (the play-off matches) in the month of February, in which there will be the game in hand against Bologna and the possible quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia.
We have 6 points in CL and are sitting on 20th spot. Even Dinamo Zagreb are in front of us in terms of points.
But as I like to say and will continue saying it – you get what you paid for.
CL qualification into next round at this point seems easier than winning Serie a match. The rest of the games are “easier” than what we’ve played so far.
But in the Top8 we easily get sent home. So realistically there isn’t anything left to play for outside of climbing back up into Top4 domestically.
Even if we win all of our remaining games (and that’s big If), we probably won’t make it to top 8. Losing to Liverpool and Leverkusen is a big disadvantage.
Because Supercoppa and Coppa dont exist?
No one cares about those 3rd class competitions.
I’d take the two trophies!!
Agreed, but Milan in such a bad position right now, its either those or none at all.
Those COULD save Fonseca’s job but do we really want that if we miss out on UCL?
JAJAJAJJA ” COPA Y SUPERCOPA” DICEN!!!! JAJAJAJJA JAJAJAJJA JAJAJAJJA JAJAJAJJA… COMO EN 2015 /16 GAME OVER!!!
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🇺🇲🇵🇹👍🏻
🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
Acmilan will win all the remaining matches because we have mastered this champions league settings only that in January Acmilan needs to sign an attacking midfield, winger and central midfield this the player we must buy to come to the top we need Patrick dorgu, Dejan kulvshevki, Ricci then let’s bring Bonomi and Jimenez for right back and left back and lastly we stick to our 4-2-3-1 formation.no problem at all Fonseca is doing a Good job.
these next 4 matches are a must win also they aren’t really tough team but it s fonseca we’re talking about
“nine-point gap to fourth”
Pause and let that sink in. NINE!!!! NINE points from the UCL spot. Fng ridiculous. Soon enough it will be easier to secure the ticket to next year’s UCL by winning the thing this season.
Are you pretending not to know that we have played 1 fewer games than those other teams that are ahead of us?
