CM: Opportunity arrives for Ballo-Toure after Pioli blocked his summer sale

By Oliver Fisher -

The future of Fode Ballo-Toure continues to arouse speculation as the full-back has not been used much by Stefano Pioli since his arrival last summer.

Calciomercato.com write how Pioli will have to do without Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez for at least the upcoming couple of games. The former is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and is a leader, while the latter is a match-winner on his day.

That is why Ciprian Tatarușanu and Fode Ballo-Touré are waiting to be called upon to fill the respective gaps, and they are two players who could have left Milan last summer because they were unhappy due to a lack of playing time.

Theo is almost certain to miss the away games against Empoli in Serie A and Chelsea in the Champions League, with a glimmer of hope that he makes the match against Juventus. Pioli has several options to replace him, such as moving Sergino Dest to the left side or using a three-man defence.

However, the natural replacement is Ballo-Toure and that option is the favourite in view of the game against Empoli, so the Senegal international should have a great opportunity to demonstrate what he is capable of and redeem a first season at Milan that had more negatives than positives.

He was actually one step away from being sold to Galatasaray but Pioli blocked the sale because he saw encouraging signs in the pre-season campaign and wants to try to help him grow. Now, a sliding doors moment has presented itself.
