Il Giorno: Opposition to San Siro plan arrives as group announce legal action

In rather predictable circumstances, it looks as though AC Milan and Inter will face opposition in their bid to build a new stadium next to San Siro.

As a reminder, Milan and Inter submitted the Document of feasibility of project alternatives (DocFap) on Tuesday to the City Council. The document also contains the offer to purchase the San Siro stadium and the surrounding area by the clubs.

Il Giorno (via Calcio e Finanza) reports that it is an offer close to the valuation of the Revenue Agency, which is €197m. The two clubs would like to subtract the reclamation costs and begin a revolution for the entire area.

As is known, we are talking about a new stadium with over 70,000 seats next to the current San Siro, which in turn would be repurposed (and largely demolished). However, the clubs have already specified in the joint press release on Tuesday evening that further specifics are to come.

The Gruppo Verde San Siro Association – which brings together some of the neighbourhood’s residents, have announced legal action. Spokesperson Silvana Gabusi stated: “We will oppose it with appeals to the TAR and the Court of Auditors.

“To the selling off of the area, where in addition to a stadium, a large shopping center can also be built, emphasising that nowhere in Italy or Europe is there a 70,000 square meter Fiordaliso-type shopping center next to a stadium;

“To the building speculation of the teams, who do not want to build only the stadium, but also a shopping center and other entertainment facilities; to the construction of a stadium just 50 meters from the houses on Via Tesio;

“To the 72,000 square metres of underground parking for the stadium and shopping centre – as if the cars, when they leave, would fly; to the concomitant use of the stadium and shopping center for 365 days a year, with the obvious induced traffic now out of control.”

The Gruppo Verde San Siro Association still hopes that the project for the new stadium next to the San Siro will fall through and that Milan and Inter will decide to build their new facility elsewhere.

“In the event that the teams decide to leave, the solution would be: for the sole purpose of example, to make a call for tenders to transform it into a sports hall, with the winner expected to tidy up the surrounding area and eliminate the parking lots,” the association concluded.

  1. When you purchase a home next to an airport, you can’t complain about the noise of departing aircraft. When you purchase a home near a major stadium for 2 local teams….

    My only sympathies are for people who owned in the immediate area prior to the construction of San Siro.

    1. The residents aren’t complaining about the San Siro. They are complaining about the construction of a NEW stadium and all the other facilities around it (Shopping malls, etc).

      They didn’t sign up for that and it’s their right to protest.

  2. Milan needs to understand it won’t be easy building in that location, let them fully embrace the San donato project and have a new stadium in 4years time, this opposition alone could cause a delay of 10 years

    1. You need to understand the adaptations needed to make Donato area work. There’s no metro station nearby. Highway knot will need complete remodeling etc. Not to mention all the permissions they need to acquire for those adaptations. San Siro area is already adapted. I’m sure their experts took all the costs into consideration and San Siro is more feasible.

      1. Still, the government at San Donato are actually willing to step in and assist in resolving those issues.

        The San Siro plan was Sala trying to save face because he didn’t want to lose Milan and Inter as renting customers to that Stadium (16M Euro per season in rental income is pretty hard to give up).

  3. LOL. Here we go. Italian politics at its best

    Like I said many many many times – this will NEVER NEVER happen under Redbird. They do NOT have the $$$$$$$$$$

    550M @ 13% interest still owed to Elliot and sue in 2027 under the Vendor Loan – and bow they are gonna spend hundreds of millions they don’t have (and would have to borrow) to build a stadium????

    LOL. Ya right. They will NEVER BUILD a stadium.
    Ferry just wants to get the approval for one THEN sell.

    1. It’s actually comical that people still believe that Redbird is gonna build a stadium.

      I remember how the Redbird banner men used the stadium story then to push the narrative on how in four years time, Milan would have its own stadium.

      Reality check, it’s almost three years now out of the four years. And still no stadium. Heck still no foundations laid.

      And they are back to the same ol San siro. Or should it be five years now🤔🤔

      You never know with Redbird and it’s supporters. Everything is everyone’s else fault but Redbird and their policies.
