Opta: AC Milan the worst in top 5 European Leagues in key statistic

By Isak Möller -

Although AC Milan have done well since the start of the year, this season hasn’t met the expectations set in the summer, currently sitting in 8th place – ten points away from Atalanta and the Champions League zone.

Of course, you can point to a lot of different things that could have been done better, especially when Marco Giampaolo was in charge. No doubt, the first half of the season has left the Rossoneri with a near-impossible mountain to climb.

As revealed by Opta (via Onefootball.com), one key statistic explains what Milan’s biggest struggles have been this season, namely their conversion rate. In fact, when looking at their expected goals and the actual goals scored, it doesn’t look too good.

Excluding penalties, the Rossoneri have scored 22 goals this season. However, their expected goals tally is at 33, which gives them a -11 differential. This is the worst record in the top five European Leagues in 2019/20.
